Racing games are a video game genre in which the player participates in a racing competition. They may be based on anything from real-world racing leagues to fantastical settings. In this article, Gurugamer is going to showcase the top 4 best racing games to play on PC in 2022.
1. Forza Horizon 5
Forza Horizon 5 is a masterclass example of how to do an open-world racing game, bar none. Thanks to its deeply rich map, wealth of content, and fantastic visuals, it's the best racing experience I've had yet.
The Horizon games basically let you do your own thing and let you go at your own pace. It's a game you can play when you don't really feel like playing or feel like challenging yourself. Whether you plan to 100% all the content or just freeroam in your favorite cars doing small challenges. The online modes let you compete or work together with other players or you could just drive in a convoy with friends.
If you never played a Forza Horizon title, this is pretty much the best place to start with this title being the newest one. The most noticeable improvement compared to FH4 would probably be engine sounds and a much larger map. Some people like the greens of FH4's map, but I have my bias for dry deserts full of cactus and wet jungles. If dirt or cross-country racing is your thing, you will feel right at home.
2. CarX Drift Racing Online
CarX Drift Racing Online is as its name implies, a racing game that focuses on drifting. Though it does have online in the title, it does have a single-player component to it as well.
The selection within the game is satisfying with the single-player mode having several different game modes from drifts, time attacks and tandem race with others; and numerous cars to gain and modify as you play and progress. With the steam workshop, there are also hundreds of cars and mods to add to the game too.
The gameplay itself is both enjoyable and satisfying with the many tracks to play as you earn points within by drifting, and the driving of course with it being a driving game. Having played both the modes in single-player and some multiplayer games, both parts are fun to play. Driving and controlling the cars lean more towards simulation rather than arcade since the feel of it is more realistic. So those that are more interested in simulation-type games may enjoy it more, but it is enjoyable, nonetheless. Playerbase is quite active, which is important with the online portion being a focus of the game, so you can easily find people to play with.
The visuals and graphics of the game are amazing with both the cars themselves and the various tracks. This is especially so in the higher-end quality graphics setting making the graphics more detailed and crisper. The UI when racing is also well done with how it is laid out without being too cluttered.
3. The Crew 2
It's surprising to see just how much The Crew 2 differs from the original game. There's been a noticeable shift in Ubisoft’s last few open-world titles, one that's moving toward a focus on player-driven progression--large selections of optional activities, non-linear structures, rewards for doing just about anything--and The Crew 2 benefits significantly from this direction. The gritty crime angle from the original game is gone, and instead, The Crew 2 takes reams of pages from the book of Forza Horizon.
The game centers on a nationwide festival of motorsports where you, a rookie, are poised to become the next big star. While the setup is conventional, and the focus on social media fame is obnoxious, what it brings to the game is a colorful and upbeat vibe, an impressive variety of different disciplines, and positively ridiculous arcade driving on land, water, and through the air.
Despite the game's focus on real-world branding and mimicry of televised motorsports, The Crew 2's greatest asset is its willingness to be ridiculous. Races in The Crew 2 might involve jumping your street-racing car off skyscrapers, or your powerboat off the Hoover Dam. They might include making high-speed touring cars go head to head through the tight, windy Hollywood Hills, and motocross bikes take jumps across shipping freighters and freeways right before you transform into a prop plane like some kind of extreme-sports mecha. This is a game that will cover Los Angeles in three feet of snow for no logical reason other than icy roads make for more thrilling street races. Abundant nitro boosts, uncomplicated drifting, and generous rubber-banding also help keep the act of driving exciting when things are relatively tame.
4. Assetto Corsa
Assetto Corsa is a racing simulator that aims to recreate real-life driving as closely as possible. This means that all the steering and driving input using any type of input whether it’s on a Racing Wheel, Game Controller analog stick, mouse using mouse steer or keyboard (which is not recommended, please do not try playing with a keyboard) is controlling the steering wheel of the car, not the car itself. So, precision controlling the steering is a must to be able to play this game/simulator.
The player can turn the steering wheel too much or the car won’t turn (this is called understeer). Therefore, it’s not recommended to play with a keyboard because keyboard input is not precise enough and will turn the steering wheel all the way. At the very least using the mouse to steer (there is an option in the setting) might be hard at first but if you do have any other controller. For game controller user, the same apply to you just don’t push the analog stick too far and you will be good.
If you understand this, with a lot of practice, you will have an enjoyable time with this game/simulator. This game/simulator is a launcher based meaning if you press start to start driving in the game but to change any setting you need to do most of it in the launcher.
Assetto Corsa have no story. The game is started with the launcher which gives access to so Career mode, Quick Play mode, Practice, Online, etc. Career mode is for gathering medals for completing races or time trials on set tracks with set cars of someone looking for a goal to play toward or go play Assetto Corsa Competizione but the main part of this game is about driving the car so I would suggest playing the Practice for the driving experience.
