Enchantments are the main way to improve your character in Minecraft. Most of them can be acquired from an enchantment table, however, there are some that only spawn on the world map. In this article, we are going to showcase the top 5 rarest enchantments in Minecraft 1.18.
1. Frost Walker
Frost Walker is a boot enchantment that creates frosted ice blocks when walking over water. This causes the wearer to be immune to damage from heated blocks such as campfires and magma. Works even when you are riding a horse (if you enchant the horse armor with it). However, lava is an exception - this enchantment does not work on Lava at all.
There are 2 levels of Frost Walker. The radius of ice that freezes around you will be larger while using Frost Walker 2.
Overall, this enchantment is fairly rare. The easiest way to get it is to breed a number of villagers and change them to librarians using lecterns. Afterward, place a piston under the lectern - its movement would cause the villager to unlink and refresh the trade.
2. Mending
Mending is an enchantment that restores the durability of an item using experience. It is the most sought-after enchantment in Minecraft, as Mending allows your character to fix its gear indefinitely.
Mending counts as a treasure enchantment; it can be obtained from chest loot, fishing, raids, or trading with a Librarian of any level. However, unlike Frost Walker where you only need a few books, Mending is something you need as many as possible. The same method for Frost Walker can be applied to farm for Mending.
3. Curse of Vanishing
The curse of Vanishing is a "bad enchantment" that prevents items from dropping upon death. The gear with this enchantment would be removed from the world completely. You can prevent this from happening by dropping the item manually or placing it into a chest.
Overall, this enchantment is a staple in Minecraft PVP, as enemies would not be able to loot your items and use them after you are killed. If you plan on using some heavily enchanted end-game weapon, Curse of Vanishing is probably a must.
It can be acquired the same way as the previous two enchantments, however, it is actually a bit rarer, as mob gears with this enchantment would disappear.
4. Curse of Binding
This is also a "bad enchantment" that prevents you from removing your item at all. Overall, this enchantment is not as useful as Curse of Vanishing - their only use is for pranking, with players tricking each other to equip a low-level piece of armor.
Just be careful not to equip this kind of item, as there is no way to remove them unless you die. IF you are playing Hardcore mode, your whole playthrough is screwed.
5. Soul Speed
This is a boot enchantment that allows players to reverse the slowing effect of Soul Sand and Soul Soil and increase players' movement speed. This enchantment can only be acquired from bartering with piglins or killing a piglin who's wearing golden boots with Soul Speed.
Take note that both of the above methods are not 100% guaranteed. Furthermore, players also need enough gears with this enchantment to unlock level 3 of Soul Speed, which can let you zip through Soul Sand Valley with ease. Scouring Bastion Remnant chests is also a good method, as their spawn rate in chests has been increased in patches.
