Zombies are one of the most iconic monsters in all media, and they are one of the first mobs to be added to Minecraft. However, the base version of zombies is not that dangerous - they are just a minor threat at best, with some of them having the ability to break down doors.

However, Minecraft is a highly moddable game, and various mods have been created to bring the true zombie apocalypse experience into Minecraft. In this article, Gurugamer is going to showcase the top 6 best Minecraft zombie modpacks to try out in 2022.

Take note that some of the mods here require older versions of Minecraft so you might need to downgrade to play them.

1. Mustard Virus

The Mustard Virus mod is pretty much the most popular zombie mod ever, with 1.8 million downloads on CurseForge. In this mod, the Mustard Virus has gone global and wiped out humanity. You're all that remains, well - you and the endless waves of infected. How long can you last? Will your base be strong enough to stop the horde?

The infected are relentless. They are 10 times more powerful than regular zombies, and can also break blocks. Additionally, zombies are attracted to light, sound, and most of all - players. Therefore, you need to confront them head-on. Sunlight no longer has any effect on them, and they'll stop at nothing to get to you!

It is pretty much a zombie survival sim, with the players being able to learn to make guns, turrets, vehicles, complex machinery and robot soldiers. Recruit survivors to your survival base, and obtain ores that are only available in the wasteland deserts in order to overcome the parasite raid on the 100th midnight.

The zombies in this modpack are very well designed. They are progressively faster and have the ability to pillar, destroy blocks, call for allies and infect survivors. All out invasions happen every 10 days and parasitic organisms spawn on the 50th day, gradually increasing as days go on. There are also mutated creatures that reside in specific biomes and enemy survivors that will gun you down on sight.

4. PwrDown’s Zombie Apocalypse

This pack features hundreds of new Zombie types, which all have different stats. Some interesting world generation, as you'll find abandoned cities, homes, shops etc which can all be looted. As you work your way up, you'll switch from melee weapons to ranged ones, which involve pistols, rifles and shotguns. There are lots of new items, recipes and mechanics, and it's an interesting, but intense and difficult pack overall.

As the difficulty of the pack is very high, it is recommended that players tweak settings and add or remove mods to make it easier.
