Aquatic mobs are an in-game group of mobs that live in oceans and rivers and are able to swim. As exploring the ocean is completely optional and requires a bit of preparation, new players in Minecraft often ignore it.
However, there are a lot of useful mobs players can farm in the ocean. In this article, Minecraft is going to showcase the top 8 useful aquatic mobs in Minecraft 1.19.
1. Squid
Squids are amongst the earliest mobs added to the water biomes in Minecraft. They are passive toward the player and are not attracted to light.
Squid produces a cloud of black ink particles and swims away when attacked. They drop ink sacs when killed, which can be used for black dyes. To farm squids, you have to build a chamber between layers 46 and 62, and fill it with water for them to appear.
2. Turtles
A turtle (in Java Edition) or sea turtle (in Bedrock Edition) is a common passive mob found in beach biomes. They drop seagrass upon death, which is an excellent decorative item if players are looking to create their own lake.
Players can breed turtles to get baby turtles, which yield scutes after growing up. Scutes are a highly useful item that can be crafted into the rare turtle helmet and the potion of the turtle master. This is a powerful potion that can reduce all damage taken up to 90 percent.
3. Dolphins
Dolphins are neutral mobs that live in non-frozen oceans, which grant a speed boost to players that swim near them. Players can find them in groups (pods) of 3–5 in all ocean biomes, except frozen oceans and cold oceans. They spawn exclusively between levels 50 and 64.
By feeding dolphins raw cod or raw salmon, players can improve their "trust" and interactions, based on the amount of fish fed. When dolphins are fed enough, they would swim to the nearest chest in shipwreck, buried treasure, or ocean ruins.
Players can use this function to effortlessly locate rare chest loots like enchanted books, apples or heart of the sea. Dolphins also avoid guardians and elder guardians.
4. Elder Guardians
Elder Guardians are the main boss that you need to defeat in Ocean Monuments. Each Ocean Monument has three Elder Guardians.
These Minecraft aquatic mobs are the elite version of the Guardians, with better stats and a special ability called "mining fatigue" that prevents players from breaking blocks. There is no avoiding this, as it is an aura that affects an area of 50 blocks around them. Usually, players need to kill all 3 Guardians to mine prismarine from the Monuments.
5. Guardians
Guardians are pufferfish-like hostile mobs that spawn in and around ocean monuments. By farming them, players can obtain valuable ingredients such as prismarine shards, crystals, and fish.
Guardians only spawn in Ocean Monuments, which can only be found in deep ocean biomes. Players can either explore randomly to stumble upon one, or use the command /locate monument to get the coordinate of the nearest Monument.
Guardian spawns in water blocks within a 58×24×58 volume of the monument, usually from its base (usually Y=39) to just above the decorative structure at the top (usually Y=61).
6. Drowned
Drowned is one of the best mobs to farm in Minecraft. They are the only source for Tridents and the only renewable source for copper. Players can even loot from them the ever-elusive chainmail armor.
A flooded dungeon farm works by spawning zombies using the dungeon's monster spawner. Afterward, funnel the zombies into an underwater chamber to drown them, which in turn convert them to Drowned.
After this, players can either kill them manually or create a trap to automatically dispose of them.
7. Pufferfish
In Minecraft, pufferfish is also poisonous like its real-life counterpart. Although they are amongst the most hilarious-looking mobs in the game, they actually have some of the best uses that cannot be underrated.
This mob will spawn in groups of 1 to 4 in deep lukewarm, lukewarm, or warm ocean biomes. You can scoop the Pufferfish in a bucket.
In a brewing stand, combining a Pufferfish with an Awkward Potion will generate a Potion of Waterbreathing. This Potion comes in handy when you are looking to fight an Ocean Monument or construct an underwater base in the game.
8. Glow Squids
Glow Squids behave similarly to common Minecraft Squids. The only difference is that they emit a little glow.
The Glow Ink Sacs they drop can be one of the materials to make a Glow Item Frame. A Glow Item Frame also lets players show their favorite items and weapons in their house like common Frames.
