Fans of The Witcher franchise who wish to experience the fantasy world for themselves won't have to wait long. Video game modder Patryk Loan has just released the first edition of The Witcher Virtual Reality (VR). This means we are getting one step closer to seeing the world of Witcher through Geralt's own eyes.
The goal of the project is to allow Witcher fans with VR headsets to explore the locations of the first game through VR. The Witcher Virtual Reality isn't actually a modification to an existing game. Loan had to recreate the game's maps himself using Unreal Engine 4. Check out the trailer below:
Future of the project
His current plans are to keep adding new maps to the existing one with new updates. Loan is also planning "a fully playable plot, like a Prologue" to the Witcher games, which could come from the books or his own idea.
The project is pretty open to different directions and options, as Loan believes "we will have a lot of time to discuss all this". It sounds like fans and followers can provide feedback and ideas to help develop this VR experience. Probably some are already hoping to recreate Geralt's scene in the bathtub.
At the moment, the VR project only allows you to walk around the training grounds of Kaer Morhen. There are not many details available on the grounds themselves, like items, decorations, other characters. But you can take a stroll on the ramparts, look at the surrounding hazy forests, or scare the birds away by swinging your fists.
If you have a VR headset available like an Oculus Rift, HTC Vive or Windows Mixed Reality, Loan's VR game would be a fun experience worth trying out at least once. Even if there's not much in it right now, it's the potential updates to this project that are exciting.
