Guild Esports is a talent development company that has recently announced its global launch. The company has former footballer David Beckham as one of its co-owner. Guild Esports has a headquarter in London, UK and it is looking to develop a talent pipeline based on “the traditional academy model.”
The company says that it will allow the “most able players” to be picked up by esports scouts, who will be “coached and nurtured by industry leaders.” At the beginning, Guild Esports is focusing on FIFA, Fortnite, and Rocket League.
The person most responsible for the skate and streetwear brand Palace, Fergus Purcell, will be the one to develop the company’s branding.

On his involvement in Guild Esports, David Beckham said in a release:
“Throughout my career, I’ve been lucky enough to work with players at the top of their game, and I’ve seen first-hand the passion and dedication it takes to play at that level. I know that determination lives in our esports athletes today and at Guild we have a vision to set a new standard, supporting these players into the future.
We are committed to nurturing and encouraging youth talent through our academy systems and I am looking forward to helping our Guild Esports team grow.”
Via DB Ventures, David Beckham and Blue Star Capital made major contributions during a funding round by Guild Esports that is aiming at reaching £25 million, with Blue Star investing £480,000 at 6p per share for its 11.7 percent stake in Guild Esports.

Seeing someone like Beckham get involved with esports is not out of the ordinary since he's heavily involved in sports, which has become more and more integrated and associated with esports. Having an esports training academy could be promising and we will see how it grows in the future.
