How to get Legendaries in Pokemon Go

Requirements

  • Legendary Pokemon in Pokemon GO can only be found in Legendary Raids, the hardest raids. While regular raids appear at random, Legendary Raids appear for a set duration. They rotate in and out and sometimes are restricted by region.

  • Certain elusive Legendaries only appear in EX Raid Battles, which requires EX Raid Pass invite to participate. You need to beat a Raid Boss at that Gym to get an invite.
  • Legendary Pokemon can't be used to defend Gyms. They have the highest CP of any Raid creature. The Buddy distance for them is 20km per candy - it's best to use rare candies on them.

How to catch All Legendary Pokemon In Pokemon Go

  • Once you defeat a Legendary Raid, you would still need to catch the Pokemon themselves. This is fairly difficult, as the Legendaries only have a 3% base chance of catching. Try to increase your chances by using Golden Razz Berries and the Curveballs method.

  • Nice, Great, and Excellent throws increase those chances further respectively, and there's also a small bonus for having a Bronze, Silver, or Gold Medal as well. A Golden Razz Berry, Curveball, and Excellent throw, with a Gold medal for that Legendary's Type, give you a 24% chance of catching the Legendary.

How to increase your chances

  • Try to land a curveball with a Nice, Great, or Excellent throw (landing the ball in the center of the circle - the smaller the better).
  • Catching wild creatures of the same type to get as many relevant Catch Bonus medals to Gold as possible.
  • Use one Golden Razz Berry between every attempt.
  • Try to earn more Premier Balls for the catch phase. You can either target a Gym controlled by your team, deal more damage and keep your team alive until the end. Be careful, as your contribution is wiped when your team faints.
  • Try to land your Premier Balls immediately after the legendary attack animation ends. They are invulnerable during their attacks.
