We have reported on Dead Cells from developer Motion Twin on many occasions, and for good reason. The game rightfully deserves all of that attention, as it was definitely one of the best roguelike titles of recent times. Thanks to its punishing yet satisfying and addictive combat and intricate level designs, the game has earned an overwhelmingly positive review rating on Steam (95% out of over 26,000 users have recommended it) since its initial launch back in August 2018.

With such a reputation, it comes as no surprise that Motion Twin’s announcement back in May that it was bringing the game to mobile generated quite a lot of hype. The port is handled by the renowned studio Playdigious and it has been available for pre-order on the App Store for a month with a price of $7.99 (Rs 550), which is much cheaper than the $24.99 (Rs 1710) of the Steam version. That said, this is a discounted rate, and the official price will be $9.99 (Rs 680) – still a nice deal compared to what it’d cost you to play Dead Cells on your PC.

Now comes the not-so-good news:  The expected release date for the game on the App Store has changed been changed to August 28th from July 17th, meaning it has been pushed back more than a month.  Eager fans will no doubt be disappointed by this, but surely, the wait will be worth it in the end. If the team behind the port feel like they still need more time, then there is no point in pushing them. As famed game designer Shigeru Miyamoto from Nintendo once said, “A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.”

Dead Cells also has a post-launch DLC titled “Rise of the Giant”, which expands the base game with plenty of added content such as new levels, secrets, and bosses. It is unclear if the mobile version will include this DLC, but given that Rise of the Giant is available for free on PC, we have reasons to believe that it will.
