On August 13, Apple has removed Fortnite from the App Store because Epic added a direct payment system inside the game, which violated the policy of Apple. Soon after that, Epic sued Apple and even made a parody video of Apple's '1984' commercial video. They also made a campaign on Twitter with the hashtag #FreeFortnite and an in-game tournament with anti-Apple skins. It seems that Epic has totally expected a war and fully prepared for this war with Apple.

Of course, it is no surprise that the court sided with Apple so they don't have any obligation at all to return Fortnite to the App Store. However, Apple cannot delete the account of Epic developers so Epic can still have the ability to come back if things are settled down. Another trial will be held on September 28th so both sides can seek a more permanent solution.

Epic even held a tournament to protest Apple policy

But for now, Fortnite will remain banned in the App Store unless Epic makes the decision to "comply with the App Store guidelines" and remove their direct payment option. But Epic remained consistent with their idea and even made a counter-argument. That means the update Chapter 2 - Season 4 update (v14.00) won't be coming for Apple users, not at least until next month.

Apple is asking that Epic revert Fortnite to exclusively use Apple payments. Their proposal is an invitation for Epic to collude with Apple to maintain their monopoly over in-app payments on iOS, suppressing free market competition and inflating prices. As a matter of principle, we won’t participate in this scheme.

You, as a mobile device owner, have the right to install apps from sources of your choosing. Software makers have the right to freely express their ideas and to compete in a fair marketplace. Apple’s policies take these freedoms away.

Epic portrayed Apple as a dictator using the "1984" commercial

While the update won't come for people who use the iPhone and iPad, they can still play Fortnite with each other in the old update. But while players from every other platform are enjoying the new update, iPhone and iPad users are still playing the same old update.

Apple users can still play Fortnite but with the old update

On Mac, since Fortnite is installed through Epic's launcher, players can still install Fortnite updates without issue but there is no guarantee that Apple will make a move here to put pressure on Epic.
