It has been two years since Free Fire was banned in India by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) and fans are still waiting for it to relaunch in the country.
The good news is that Garena appears to be significantly invested in expanding its presence in India, with intentions to introduce Free Fire to the market. To facilitate this, the developer is allegedly to be localizing its operations by relocating its game server to India, a move reportedly prompted by the Indian government's encouragement seven months ago.
According to the Economic Times, Garena seemingly intends to set up its server in Mumbai, at Yotta Data Services. A source close to the company revealed that Yotta is collaborating with Garena's headquarters team on server testing, showing high throughput capabilities necessary for managing streaming workloads with minimal redundancy.
“It is important that performance metrics are adequately tested before the game goes to market because esports tournaments put many ecosystem players at stake and therefore should be devoid of any technical snags,” said the person who disclosed the information.
For those anticipating Free Fire’s comeback in India, this development spells nothing but positive news. With the servers set to be localized, the prospects of bringing the game back to the country without encountering any issues appear promising.
“Free Fire India will feature a fully localized infrastructure tailored to meet the needs and requirements of the authorities and our stakeholders in India,” claimed Garena to the publication.
Regrettably, the exact Free Fire launch date in India remains unknown. Nonetheless, we hope that it will hit the market within the next few months.
