Phantoms are flying undead hostile mobs that spawn when the player has not slept or died for three or more in-game days. This is the only way they can spawn, and because of that, some new players don't even know Phantom exists before getting attacked. They drop a valuable item called Phantom Membrane when killed. In this article, Gurugamer.com is going to showcase how to farm Phantom Membrane in Minecraft 1.18.
1. What is the main use of Phantom Membrane?
Repairing Elytra
The Elytra is probably one of the most valuable tools in Minecraft, as it gives players the ability to fly. However, flying consume durability and finding a second elytra to repair the first one is super costly.
This is where Phantom membranes come in. They can be used in an anvil to repair elytra, restoring 108 durability points (25% of the pair's total durability) per membrane while preserving their enchantments.
Brewing Slow Falling Potion
Players can use phantom membranes to brew slow falling potions from an awkward potion.
These potions make the player fall at a much slower rate, and not take any damage when hitting the ground. This effect allows the player to jump across a gap of almost 6 blocks when sprinting. Furthermore, the player also cannot destroy any crops by jumping on them while experiencing the effects of this potion. The player cannot land a critical hit while having this effect.
2. How to farm Phantom Membrane?
Preparations
Phantom is rather tricky to farm, as they only spawn after one real-world hour. There are a couple of methods to farm them, and the best one is probably cobwebs traps.
Firstly, players would need a decent about of cobweb, at least close to a stack of 64. These items can be pretty tricky to find - it is best to check out abandoned mineshafts for them. Harvest them with either shears or a silk touch sword.
Afterward, players need to get 5-6 stacks of building blocks, 1-2 stacks of slabs, a bucket of water or two to prepare the structure. Some wither roses would be useful, as players can place them in certain positions to kill the phantoms automatically.
Step-by-step guide
- Firstly, create the base platform of the tower (7x7 blocks or higher).
- Build either a bubble or water elevator at the center of the platform.
- Use slabs to build the top floor then build a roof over the top floor. It must be somewhat open or made from glass to ensure phantom spawns.
- Place cobwebs between the columns that are holding up the roof. Afterward, just AFK to wait for the Phantoms to spawn. They would get stuck to the cobwebs, ready to be killed.
- Players can also place some Wither rose nearby to kill it automatically.
- Their membranes should drop and get stuck in the cobwebs or drop down to the tower's base platform.
