Not only human beings but game characters also accumulate a lot of haters. Genshin Impact units also have their own hater base, but some of them overcame the discrimination and become the most popular Genshin Impact characters. These names were not liked at the very first stages of their in-game existence.

Kaedehara Kazuha

Kazuha Genshin
Kazuha was underrated before rising as one of the best Anemo units.

Released in 2021, the fresh character Kazuha was skipped by many as his introduction coincided with that of Ayaka and the much-anticipated Inazuma region. Also, the devs did not let him appear or mention him before update 1.6, which made him quite invisible. However, he later emerged as a surprise standout in the character lineup.

True to the Anemo archetype, the samurai has remarkable crowd-control abilities using his Elemental Skill. He can provide party-wide buffs with the Swirl reaction, allowing for versatile team compositions. Kazuha is also a very useful character for exploration thanks to the practicality of a double jump, airborne.

After some time of experience, many Genshin players now regard him as the best Anemo character in Genshin Impact, even putting him on par with Anemo Archon Venti.

Yae Miko

Yae Miko
It took Yae Miko a while before becoming a community-wide favorite.

Released in February 2022, the pretty girl Yae Miko struck an impression with her look. Ability-wise, it took her a little more time.

During her release, Genshin Impact players weren't exactly craving more off-field Electro characters. There was also a slew of Electro options back then, like Raiden Shogun, Fischl, Beidou. Using Yae Miko felt a bit clunkier compared to these characters, as her skills demanded careful placement and time.

Later, the arrival of Dendro element proved a game-changer for her. This sparked renewed interest in the old Electro characters players had put on the bench.

Yae Miko's kit found its sweet spot in Aggravate team compositions, consistently applying Electro with her Elemental Skill. To top it off, her passives encourage players to gear up with the Gilded Dreams artifact set, delivering an ATK and EM boost to the party based on her Elemental Mastery.

Kuki Shinobu

Kuki Shinobu
Released in June 2022, Kuki Shinobu was deemed underwhelming by most players.

Frankly speaking, Kuki had mediocre DMG, overshadowed off-field Electro application, and decent healing. Yet, she still faced criticism until the Dendro element entered. Also, Kuki Shinobu's Elemental Skill, forming an Electro ring, consistently applies the element, making her ideal for Hyperbloom teams.

Unlike Beidou and Raiden Shogun, her ring hits multiple enemies and provides healing to the active character every 1.5 seconds. Although she is a 4-star character, she is still one of the most popular Genshin Impact characters as of now.

In case you don't know, enhanced healing linked to her Elemental Mastery makes her a perfect fit for Flower of Paradise Lost and Gilded Dreams artifact sets.

Sangonomiya Kokomi

Kokomi Sangonomiya
Kokomi is now among the most popular Genshin Impact characters.

Released in September 2021, the Divine Priestess used to be underappreciated by almost every player before this character proves her ability for triggering the Bloom reaction.

Initially dismissed as a healer with vulnerability to critical hits, Kokomi faced skepticism in a damage-centric meta. However, the evolving game dynamics, including new enemies bypassing shields, increased the demand for healers.

Kokomi's Elemental Skill and the Ocean-Hued Clam set garnered recognition for her broader Hydro application and utility in Freeze teams.

On another hand, the introduction of the Dendro element boosted Kokomi's value. Her ability to trigger the Bloom reaction usually earns her a spot in the best characters for Spiral Abyss.

As Fontaine and Furina's HP manipulation mechanics were introduced, Kokomi unsurprisingly became an even more demanded unit in Genshin Impact right now.

Yoimiya

Range Gauge Yoimiya
Release in October 2021, the Pyro archer had a difficult time of her life.

Squeezed between popular Ayaka and Raiden Shogun banners, she was the least-selling character back then. Being a bow-user with fiery arrows, she faced problems because the game's shooting system for bows was a bit wonky. Her main attack doesn't hit a bunch of enemies at once, so she struggles against groups of opponents. Also, her special move doesn't boost her own power.

All these issues made Yoimiya a controversial character in Genshin Impact. But then, others defended her, saying she still deals a lot of damage, is friendly for players who don't spend money, easy to use, and great against big boss enemies.

While she might not be a game-changer, she's now seen as a strong Pyro DPS. The game makers even tried to make up for her not-so-great banner placements by giving her a second chapter in her story quest, which is a pretty big deal.

In general, these aforementioned characters used to be underestimated at the beginning, but from time to time, they gradually reveal their true effectiveness then gain more affection from players.
