Jason Momoa, known for his roles in blockbuster films like Aquaman and Game of Thrones, recently appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to promote his upcoming projects.

During the interview, he dropped some thrilling news for fans of the Minecraft franchise: a sequel to the 2025 hit film A Minecraft Movie is officially in the works, with production set to begin very soon.
Momoa, who starred as the champion gamer Garrett "The Garbage Man" Garrison in the original movie, expressed his enthusiasm about returning to the pixelated world. He revealed that filming for the sequel is scheduled to start by the end of April 2026.
"Very soon. Dude. Bro, end of April. They're in it," Momoa told host Jimmy Fallon, building anticipation among viewers.
What has Momoa particularly excited is the script for the follow-up. He described it as even better than the first film's, noting that it had him laughing out loud, something he said hasn't happened with a script in a long time.
"The script is even better. It's so good. I was laughing out loud," he shared.
In contrast, Momoa admitted he was "perplexed" by the original script but praised the sequel for its humor and quality.
The first A Minecraft Movie, directed by Jared Hess, was a massive success upon its release in April 2025, grossing impressive numbers at the box office and captivating audiences with its blend of adventure, comedy, and nods to the beloved video game. Given the film's popularity, development on the sequel moved quickly, with Hess confirmed to return as director. The sequel is slated for a theatrical release on July 23, 2027, promising more block-building escapades and star-studded fun.
Momoa's announcement came amid discussions about his other ventures, including hosting Ozzy Osbourne's farewell concert and working with co-stars like Jack Black in the Minecraft series. Fans took to social media to express their excitement, with updates and teasers circulating on platforms like X. This revelation underscores the enduring appeal of the Minecraft universe, transitioning from a simple sandbox game to a cinematic franchise that continues to evolve.
As production ramps up, more details are expected to emerge about the plot, cast returns, and new additions to the story. For now, Momoa's infectious energy has fans eagerly awaiting their return to the Overworld.
