Games with multiple endings are always successful to force us to go through it again in order to unveil everything that we can. It's the beauty of video games with good stories, choice-driven mechanics and a lot of details to aid the whole concept.
In 2019, we've seen most of the games that ended up winning awards having several endings under their sleeves. However, not every ending is the one you looking for, since it might rely on the personal taste of gamers. For example, there is a secret ending in DmC 5 that you can just slay Urizen at the first action scene, which is definitely there only to test your skills.
At the same time, not every time you're knowing how to unlock all endings of a game. So, let's have a look back with Gurugamer's list of 5 Best Secret Endings of 2019's Games in order to check whether you've missed anything in your favorite games. [Spoiler Alert!]
Without further ado, let's get right into it:
1. Metro Exodus
Supported platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One, Stadia
Metro Exodus is a first-person shooter game with survival elements, which takes the settings of the world after the nuclear disaster from the last game: Metro: Last Light. And since it rotates around the survival journey of the crew in the radiation zones, you'll have to make a lot of tough sacrifices and sometimes lost your human values in the process.
In fact, all of your decisions were recorded by the Secret Morality System, in which you'll lose your point if you kill too many people or commit to wrongdoings. That's how the game ends up killing you at the end, and the only way to survive is to score the highest point with the Morality System.
You can watch the steps down here:
In the bad ending, your character - Artyom will die on the way to bring the radiation cure back to Anna. That might be a good end for the heroic acts, but what's the point if we can make it better? By keeping your score high in the morality system, you can both save Anna and save yourself as well!
In order to do that, you'll have to be kind in every chapter, stay away from killing the innocent ones at all cost, always get through objectives in a stealthy way as well as save your crew. If you managed to do so, all of the people that you've saved will give you transfusion all the way in Aurora, helping you to survive together with Anna.
The game will end up with you and the survivors building a new community in the safe zone, where the radiation torment the rest of the Earth. Not too shabby for a post-apocalyptic world at all!
2. Darkwood
Supported platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch
Darkwood initially launched for PC back in 2014, but after five years, it finally made its way through the darkness to consoles in 2019. Hence, we can still technically call this game as a 2019's release, and all of that will not matter anymore since the moment you find out about the wildness of the true ending of the whole game.
In general, Darkwood is a top-down horror game telling the story of 'The Stranger' stuck in the expanding dark forest that has consumed a huge part of our world. Your task here is to find supplies and fight to stay alive against the mutated monsters while searching for the key to lead him out of this forest through the underground world. You'll end up getting out of the wood for a good sleep in the end, but the true ending is a lot twisting than you've expected.
You can see it in the video below for the steps:
As I've mentioned, The Stranger finally gets the key to open the door leading him out of the endless forest. If you choose to ignore the strange things happens around you, you will safely get on your bed for a good sleep, forever. However, if you own the souls of an investigator living a long time in the danger zone, prepare for this hidden ending.
The house's basement releases some weird sounds, and if you decided to get down and check it, or look for it from the corner of your apartment, the truth will hit you hard. You awake with no clothes, finding yourself just escape from an illusion, and have sitting on a god-like surrounding many other sleeping people.
There, you will use the Flame Throwers from a slain soldier to burn everything down to ashes. With the cost of your life, you'll end the existence of the creatures and the horrifying vision of Darkwood forever!
3. Days Gone
Supported platforms: PS4
Unlike other secret endings in this list, Days Gone doesn't require you to grind for the whole game or do a complicated set of actions to unlock its hidden ending. However, what you'll get is a whole bunch of twists, which turn over the whole survival concept of the game, as well as potentially hinting a sequel of the game as well.
Days Gone is a third-person survival game with the settings of the post-apocalypse world. You will step in the shoes of the protagonist Deacon with your beloved bikes, on the way with your trusty dude Boozer to save Sarah (your wife) from the global virus that turns people into violent zombies. It might be a normal story if you end up riding your bikes through the militia and enjoy the sunset glows, but if you choose to face your fear, you'll meet the twist of the whole game.
See it in the video below:
This 'secret' is more of a small cutscene, but it changes everything you've experienced in the game. In order to unlock it, you will need to ride your bike on the track to the place of NERO - the secret organization learning about the virus and the plague, you'll know the true identity of O'Brian, as he finally takes his helmet off.
It turns out that O'Brian is also infected - as he always jokes about his identity. O'Brian doesn't die from the virus infection but has turned into a smart person with incredible strength with the virus's effects. He leaps on the helicopter, leaving a warning for Deacon and the group is that NERO is coming, and there's no way for the crew to stop them.
Will the army of undead genius be the biggest enemy in Days Gone 2? I can't wait to find out!
4. Outer Wilds
Supported platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One
Outer Wilds is the craziest scientific-fiction game of 2019 that many people have missed due to its Epic Games Store exclusive launch. Even though there are some controversies around the game, we still couldn't deny that it's a hidden gem of the year, which you cannot miss if you're into solving mysteries.
The game concept is making you save the entire universe in 22 minutes because after that, the sun will go supernova, exploding and destroying the entire galaxy. It's outstanding not only for the gorgeous galactic visuals with the power of Unreal Engine 4, but also for the rich of side-quests that you'll encounter on your journey.
After several (hundred) tries, you will eventually save the universe, but that's not the farthest point you can reach to. In fact, you will be able to meet the inhabitants living in the Quantum world that you'll not recognize by normal eyes as well!
You can check it in the video below:
In order to unlock this ending, you need to land on the sixth location of the Quantum moon, or else, you'll die to the supernova. Prior to it, you will need to solve several puzzles (you can find the guide in the video), and resting on the Quantum Moon itself with your flashlight turned off.
Once you've filled all of the conditions, you'll wake up to see the only alien that you can communicate within this universe. Speaking with him will end up explaining how this universe work, and also explaining how the Quantum Moon is not destroyed in the supernova. In short, Quantum Moon is a place that locates at a specific location while you're observing it, but it's everywhere if you turn your eyes away.
This crazy hypothesis is the thing that makes this ending worth another try!
5. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
Supported platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One
The winner of multiple prestigious awards in 2019 - From Software's action-adventure Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, of course, has multiple endings in the package. In fact, the game has totally four endings (a bad one, a good one, and two secret endings), and anyone among those is worth unlocking - even though it's extremely hard to walk through the game all over again.
However, we find the best ending among the four is The Dragon's Homecoming ending. Basically, it's considered a good ending for the whole game, as it brings a lot more hopes and positive feelings at the end. However, if you like the chaotic situation more, there's also another one where you will turn into a wicked entity of the land.
But that's for another story, let's get back to our good ending first:
Sekiro: Shadow Die Twice is already very hard at its natural, and in order to unlock this ending, you'll have to care for a lot of other things. First of all, you'll have to find and slay the giant snakes. After that, you'll have to complete the game's main quests in a specific order, and bring the Divine Child of Rejuvenation all he needs. In exchange, you'll receive the Frozen Tears.
After that, you will use both the Dragon Tears from slaying the Divine Dragon and the Frozen Tears to give it to Kuro, and release him from the Immortal oaths. Your hero will keep on your journey on the now-peaceful lands, showed by the scene he walks out of the temple to the bright sky.
