Soon after Microsoft announced the cross-buy feature for its upcoming console, the Xbox Series X, CD Projekt responded with its own. Its next game, Cyberpunk 2077, will be a part of the new feature. CD Projekt is the developer of the famous Witcher series.
What this means is that if you buy Cyberpunk 2077 on the Xbox One console, you get the game on the Xbox Series X when the console comes out too. CD Projekt said owners of Cyberpunk 2077 on the Xbox One get a free version on the Series X through Twitter.
“Gamers should never be forced to purchase the same game twice or pay for upgrades,” the Twitter post said.
“Owners of #Cyberpunk2077 for Xbox One will receive the Xbox Series X upgrade for free when available.”
Xbox Smart Play
Cd Projekt announcement on Cyberpunk 2077 getting a Series X free update is in relation to what Microsoft said earlier on 'Smart Delivery'. This new feature is an extension of the backward compatibility of Microsoft's consoles. Backward compatibility has allowed Xbox players to enjoy games across different console generations.
“This technology empowers you to buy a game once and know that — whether you are playing it on Xbox One or Xbox Series X — you are getting the right version of that game on whatever Xbox you’re playing on," declared Microsoft.
The 'Smart Delivery' feature will be available for all Xbox Game Studios Games, while other developers can choose to opt-in. CD Projekt is one of the first developers to take advantage of the new technology.
What's interesting also, is CD Projekt simultaneously announced Cyberpunk on the Xbox Series X through their tweet. As of now, we don't know if the Series X upgrade would offer any improvement over the original version. But fans are already happy with Microsoft and CD Projekt making it easier to move onto the next console generation.
