GTA is one of the biggest video games series ever created. Amongst them, the 3D trilogy (GTA 3, GTA Vice City, GTA San Andreas) is arguably the most iconic. They have been an integral part of the childhoods of many modern gamers.
Therefore, in celebration of the 20-year anniversary of GTA 3, Rockstar has announced a GTA Remastered Trilogy for the HD games, dubbed GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition. In this article you will find GTA Trilogy Remastered confirmed information on its release date, system requirements and notable features.
1. GTA Remastered Trilogy release date
The Definitive Edition began as rumors after a collection of game titles was leaked from a database. According to a recent announcement from Rockstar, the Grand Theft Auto Remastered Trilogy is going to be released on November 11, 2021.
GTA trilogy remastered price is $59.99, a little bit steep for 20 year-old remasters.
The game is multi-platform and will come to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. A mobile version for iOS and Android will launch in 2022. The PC/Console versions will support up to 4K resolution textures and 60 FPS
2. GTA Remastered Trilogy system requirements
Rockstar has announced the official system requirement for the games on its website. As you might expect for a remaster of 20 year-old titles, the GTA trilogy remastered system requirements are fairly low.
GTA Remastered Trilogy minimum settings on PC:
- OS: Windows 10 64-Bit
- Processor: Intel Core i5-6600K/AMD FX-6300
- Memory: 8GB
- Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 2GB/AMD Radeon R9 280 3GB
- Disk: 45GB
GTA Remastered Trilogy recommended settings on PC:
- OS: Windows 10 64-Bit
- Processor: Intel Core i7-2700K/AMD Ryzen 5 2600
- Memory: 16Gb
- Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 4GB/AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB
- Disk: 45GB
However, some of these requirements completely eliminate any chance that a low end PC would be able to run GTA Remastered Trilogy. The 3GB VRAM and 8 GB RAM are probably the biggest hurdles to overcome. You probably will still be able to run GTA Remastered trilogy as long as you fulfill these two requirements. It is unsure if Windows 10 would be enforced or not.
3. Graphics differences between GTA Remastered Trilogy and the originals
Compared to the trio of GTA 3, GTA Vice City, GTA San Andreas, the GTA Triology remastered showcase more outstanding features.
Better draw distance
The draw distance is the maximum distance of objects in a three-dimensional scene from the rendering engine. The game does not render polygons beyond that distance. This is why newer games look super realistic while older games do not.
This change will massively improve how the cities look. In the original 2000s version, players could only see a short distance of what was ahead of them, with the rest covered in fog. This was because of the limited technology at the time - no graphic card could render such a big area.
In GTA Definitive edition, high vantage points will display the entire city for players to enjoy.
More prominent facial features
Faces are probably the most overlooked part of a character model in older games. In the original GTA 3D games, characters have blurry and unclear faces, as the engine cannot render high-res details for all faces. Because of that, players could never really figure out their character's actual facial details.
Rockstar has completely changed that in GTA Remastered Trilogy. All character faces are now extremely clear and readable. Questlines will definitely be more fun now, with players getting exact representations of the characters they interact with.
Unique character models
Character models have seen the greatest changes. As the game uses Fortnite's Unreal Engine, all character models are going to have a unique cartoonish look similar to Fortnite. Characters' hands now have fingers. In the original game, the characters' fingers are joined together.
Better lighting
Light sources are much more prominent now. Light from natural sources, headlights from vehicles, and even streetlights will cast shadows at the right place, based on the direction of the source. This lighting fix makes the game look much more realistic.
Better fire effects
Fire is a big part of players' experience in GTA. Therefore, in the remastered version, Rockstar has completely overhauled it. The flame effects of weapons like the Molotovs or Flamethrowers are much more realistic now.
More vibrant colors
In the original games, the color of objects is fairly blurry because of the low resolution. GTA Remastered Trilogy fixes this issue, making colors look more realistic for objects. Metallic surfaces get a nicer shine as well.
4. GTA Remastered Trilogy Control Improvements
GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition will use a similar control setup to GTA 5. Below are the overall control improvements in Grand Theft Auto trilogy remastered 2021.
- Gunplay and targeting are improved. San Andreas drive-by now has better controls. Nintendo Switch players will also benefit from gyro aiming.
- Players can now select weapons and radios from wheels. Minimap navigation is much easier now with the bigger size.
- Players can now restart any failed missions instantly.
