The Nether is Minecraft's second dimension, a hellish landscape filled with lava and dangerous monsters. The difficulty jumps quite a bit between it and the Overworld. Players might think the region is all rocks and lava, however, it actually has a number of biomes with different properties.
In this article, we are going to showcase a guide to all Nether biomes in Minecraft 1.18.
1. Nether Wastes
This is the most common biome you can find in the Nether. In fact, prior to the 1.16 update, this is the only biome in the dimension. Overall, the Nether Wastes is a pretty barren biome, with only netherrack and lava seas. Players can find blobs of glowstone, nether quartz, nether gold ore, and blackstone scattered all over. Gravel and soul sand are along coastlines while Ancient Debris is hidden underground.
This biome is home to most nether mobs, from ghasts to piglins and even endermen. Players can also find nether fortresses and bastion remnants here.
Zombified Piglin | 0-1 Rotten Flesh 0-1 Gold Nugget 2.5% chance for Gold Ingot 8.5% chance for current Weapon |
Magma Cube | 0-1 Magma Cream |
Enderman | 0-1 Ender Pearls |
Piglin | 8.5% chance for current Weapon |
Ghast | 0-1 Ghast Tears 0-2 Gunpowder |
2. Soul Sand Valley
Soul sand valley is considered the desert's counterpart in the Nether. Color is probably the most striking difference, with Soul Sand Valley having blue flames instead of red. This is the unique feature of the Soul Sand block, which players can craft into blue campfire and torches.
Soul sand also slows all creatures walking on it unless they have boots enchanted with Soul Speed. Players can find fossils made out of bone blocks in this valley, alongside structures such as caverns, fortresses and even bastions.
Skeleton | 0-2 Bones 0-2 Arrows Naturally Spawned Equipment |
Ghast | 0-1 Ghast Tears 0-2 Gunpowder |
Enderman | 0-1 Ender Pearls |
3. Crimson Forest
Crimson Forest is one of the two forest biomes you can find in the Nether, with huge crimson fungi that can be used in place of wood. The forest floor is covered with crimson nylium, a special variant of netherrack with a layer of red grass on top.
This is one of the special blocks that can be used to grow huge mushrooms. By applying bone meal, players can turn a normal mushroom into a huge mushroom at any light level.
Similar to the previous biomes, you can find nether fortresses and bastion remnants can also spawn here.
Zombified Piglin | 0-1 Rotten Flesh 0-1 Gold Nugget 2.5% chance for Gold Ingot 8.5% chance for current Weapon |
Piglin | 8.5% chance for current Weapon |
Hoglin | 2-4 Raw Porkchops 0-1 Leather |
4. Warped Forest
The Warped Forest is pretty much a palette swap of the Crimson Forest in the Nether. It is mostly identical to the Crimson Forest, with huge mushrooms of cyan color. Only Endermen can spawn here, making the biome fairly safe for exploring if you have a pumpkin helmet.
This is the only biome in the game devoid of music. Hoglins are afraid of warped fungi, which can be helpful for navigating around the Nether.
5. Basalt Deltas
This is the last and most dangerous biome in the Nether. Basalt Deltas is a volcano-like place, filled with lava and ash particles. They are the best place to find a nether fortress, as bastion remnants do not spawn here.
While only ghasts and magma cubes spawn here, this biome is still pretty dangerous because of its deadly terrains. The block layout is chaotic, filled with lava pools, sharp cliffs, and flat areas where ghasts spawn.
Ghast | 0-1 Magma Cream |
Magma cube | 0-1 Ghast Tears 0-2 Gunpowder |
