Mob heads are great decoration items that Minecraft players can acquire. Some heads are needed to spawn the Wither while others can even be worn on top of the player's head. In this article, Gurugamer is going to showcase how to get mob heads in Minecraft 1.18

There are six types of heads: player (only Steve's head), zombie, skeleton, wither skeleton, creeper, and dragon.

1. Using charged creepers

A charged Creeper is a stronger variant of the normal Creeper that appears when a Creeper is struck by lightning. It has a significantly increased explosion power, dealing up to 127 damage points on the hardest difficulty. A normal creeper can only deal up to 64 damage.

Charged Creeper Minecraft
The Charged Creeper can create a devastating explosion.

In Java Edition, a charged creeper explosion that kills zombies, skeletons, wither skeletons, or other creepers causes one of those mobs to drop its corresponding mob head. Only one mob can drop with a single creeper explosion, so if multiple valid mobs are killed the one that drops a head is chosen at random.

To create a charged creeper, players need to:

  • Hit a Creeper with an enchanted Trident that has the Channeling Enchantment. Don't actually hit it - just use trident within 5 blocks of the creeper.
  • Build a barrier to trap the creeper then place a Lightning rod right next to it.

2. Wither skeleton farm

Wither skeleton is the Nether version of normal skeletons, whose heads are needed to summon the Winter. Their heads can drop normally without the need for a creeper.

Wither Skeleton
Wither Skeleton inflicts a deadly Wither effect that drains the player's HP over time.

The skulls have a fairly low chance to drop, so if players want to collect them, the most optimal choice is to create a wither skeleton farm.

3. Explore the End

Dragon heads are special items that can only be looted from the End ships. These heads are much larger than the usual mob heads in Minecraft and even have their own animations.

The Dragon Head is the biggest piece of headwear the player can equip.

The only way to acquire them is to explore the end and locate End ships. As players usually go there to look for the Elytra anyway, the Dragon head is not that easy to miss. It is placed at the very front of the ship.

An End ship is a structure composed entirely out of purpur blocks and End stone bricks, with obsidian floors. They can sometimes be found floating above an End city.

4. Cheat codes

If you are too lazy to farm for heads in Minecraft, the only other way to get them is to use cheat code. The command for giving an item in Minecraft is /give [amount] [dataTag]

head mods
Heads in Minecraft can also be modded in.

To do this, players need to enable cheat codes before creating their world.
