How to make a beacon in Minecraft
To build a beacon in the game, players need to prepare glass, obsidian and Nether star, then place all these ingredients into the crafting table in proper order. Here's how to get and use each ingredient in the recipe.
- Glass Blocks x5
Among the needed items to make a beacon, glass is the most effortless to craft.
- Obsidian x3
Most players know that obsidian is essential to make Nether portals. However, it is also needed regarding how to make a beacon in Minecraft.
It is formed when water and lava interact with each other and it must be placed in the 3 slots at the bottom of the crafting grid.
- Nether Star x1
Now place the one Nether Star in the crafting grid’s center box.
In order to get this item, you have to defeat the Wither boss. You can summon it by placing 4 Soulsand in the formation of “T” and 3 Wither Skeleton skulls on the 3 blocks on the top.
As this opponent can fly as well as fire wide attacks, you better prepare arrows and enchant your swords if you want to take it down as fast as possible.
What can we use a beacon for?
1. Boosting status buffs
This is the main function of Minecraft beacons. If you interact with it by pressing the “use” button, they would open a menu that offers the same materials used to craft its pyramid. These are in exchange for a powerup of your preference.
The powerups can improve attack and mining speed, jump boost, strength, resistance, or speed. Pyramids that have 4 layers will also give access to health generation. The more layers one pyramid owns, the longer the time of powerup and the bigger the region a beacon effects.
2. A source of light
The light pillar a beacon makes can light up the surrounding area. This is why it can serve as a light source. Furthermore, players can use it as a landmark and find their way home as they can see it from afar.
How to activate a Minecraft beacon
Players need to place the beacon on top of a pyramid made from gold, iron, Netherite, emerald, or diamond.
In total, there are four sizes for a beacon pyramid: 3X3, 5X5, 7X7, and 9X9. Each of the layers must be put on top of one another in the same order as listed. Last but not least, you must place the beacon as a cherry on top in the center of the 3X3 blocks.
