Mobs are one of the most annoying things you have to deal with in Minecraft, especially the randomly spawn variant. In rare cases, they could even damage your base and kill villagers. To prevent this to happen, you should spawn-proof your base to prevent hostile creatures to get close.
In this article, we are going to showcase the various ways to spawn-proof your base in Minecraft.
Table of Contents
1 - Light blocks
Placing light blocks at various strategic places is the best way to prevent mobs from spawning, with torches being the most common. These blocks will increase the light level around them and prevent hostiles from spawning. Other light blocks such as Shroomlight or Glowstone emit higher light levels than torches but are fairly hard to find.
This method doesn't work on mobs that spawn regardless of light levels like slimes, hoglins and magma cubes.
2 - Slabs
Mobs in Minecraft can't spawn on blocks that are less than a full block in height. This means areas covered in bottom half slabs won't spawn mobs no matter what. You can use these slabs to cover your own base to spawn-proof it.
Just be careful, as double slabs, top half slabs and upside-down stairs are still valid spawn points.
3 - Transparent blocks
Mobs can't spawn on tops of transparent blocks like glass or partial transparent blocks like leaves. This means having a glass floor might be both good-looking and useful at the same time. Zombie reinforcements are the only exception for this.

4 - Carpets
Minecraft mobs can't spawn on carpets either. If you already made your base with vulnerable materials, just cover the floor in carpets is enough to prevent any hostiles to spawn. This is one of the easiest way to spawn proof in Minecraft.
5 - Redstone components
Mobs can't spawn on blocks with redstone components like levers, buttons, pressure plates, and all types of rails. This is something that the devs added to prevent bugs.
6 - Fluids
Other than water mobs in Minecraft, no mobs can spawn in water. Mobs other than striders are not able to spawn on lava. Having a moat for protection is actually pretty useful - just fill it with either lava or water and you are good to go.
