Chests are blocks used to store items and other materials. Besides ordinary chests, there are 3 other types of chests in Minecraft, each with a different look and additional features. In this article, Gurugamer is going to showcase a list of all chests in Minecraft and their usages.

1. Standard chests

Standard storage chests in Minecraft come in either single or double varieties. They can be crafted fairly early on, using only 8x Wooden planks. A single chest has 27 slots to hold items, but a double chest has 54 slots. To create a double chest, all players need to do is to place two single chests next to each other.

Standard chests are useful items that players need to craft to store items.

Chests can be added to a donkey, a mule, or a llama. The number of slots an attached chest have is based on the carrying capacity of the animal. A chest attached to a donkey or mule has only 15 slots, and a chest attached to a llama has anywhere from 3 to 15 slots depending upon its "Strength" value.

2. Trapped Chest

Trapped chests are pretty much identical to normal chests, except for the fact that it emits a redstone signal when open. This allows players to create traps using this chest, triggering TNT to kill any players who try to steal items.

Players can create many types of creative traps using trapped chests.

To create a trapped chest, players only need to fuse a normal chest with a tripwire hook.

3. Ender Chest

Ender chests are a type of chest whose contents are exclusive to each player and can be accessed from anywhere in the world. By bringing this chest, players can farm whatever they want in the end and store them for later usage. It is fairly expensive to create an ender chest - players need one eye of ender and 8 obsidian blocks.

Ender chests are a super useful item system that allows players to access their loot anywhere.

Furthermore, it is possible to greatly increase the space of an ender chest by pairing it with shulker boxes, which can be farmed easily in the End. Just fill the boxes with the desired items, then place them inside the ender chest.

4. Shulker Boxes

Compared with a regular chest, a shulker box adds an extra level of convenience by remaining 'intact' (with all of the items still inside of it) when it is broken. Crafting a Shulker Box is actually super easy. You only need two ingredients: Wood for chests, and Shulker Shells.

Shulkers
Be careful fighting these guys in high places -their bullets can inflict the levitation status effect.

While getting wood is easy, acquiring Shulker Shells, on the other hand, is pretty tricky. They only drop from Shulker - a hostile mob that is exclusive to the End City. So, in order to obtain Shulker Shells to make the Shulker Box, you have to defeat the Ender Dragon first.
