The Trails & Tales update doesn't yet have a release date but it is very likely that it would come out during Q2 2023. In this article, Gurugamer is going to showcase a list of all new features in the Minecraft 1.20 patch.
1. New Cherry Grove biome
Cherry Grove is a new overworld biome bring added to the game with the Minecraft 1.20 update. It is based on the real-life cherry blossom forest. The Cherry Grove biomes often generate next to snowy mountains and on top of smaller hills, the same place as the Meadow biome.
Currently, there is no exclusive mob for this biome. However, players can find bees, black rabbits, cows, sheep and pigs here. At times, if there’s a snowy mountain nearby, you can also encounter goats here. Overall, these spawns make it fairly easy to create a bee/honey farm, making cherry grove a great starting point if you want to have a peaceful Minecraft run.
2. Armor trims
At the moment there are eleven unique armor trims in Minecraft. Using a Smithing table, players can add various patterns on top of their base armor. Unlike dying, the color of the entire armor is unchanged - trimming only adds an overlay design. Additionally, this feature can be applied to all types of armor.
Firstly, you will need to collect armor trim smithing templates in the game. They spawn throughout the world of Minecraft inside the treasure chest of various in-game structures. While most of those structures are in the overworld, the Nether and the End also have some unique armor trimmings. To get these items, players should check out Gurugamer's dedicated guide for all armor trim locations in Minecraft.
3. New Camel mob
Camels are ridable - players will be able to ride them around after taming. However, unlike horses or llama, players can ride on top of a camel with a friend. This is perfect for multiplayer - while the first player controls the camel, the second player can actually use weapons and tools.
It is unclear if one needs a saddle to ride a camel or not, as they might require a different item instead of a saddle. Physically, camels are also very tall - some shorter mobs won't be able to attack the player when they are riding a camel.
Additionally, camels also have different special abilities in comparison with horses. Instead of a vertical jump, it can dash horizontally across flat surfaces like ravines or rivers. This ability makes the camel perfect for traveling in deserts - players should be able to zip through the whole area at incredible speed.
4. New Sniffer mob
Apparently, the Sniffer is the first ancient mob to be added to the game. Though others like Ender Dragon, Wither, Enderman, etc., could also be categorized as ancient, Mojang its declared that the new addition will be the first one. This means they might add other ancient mobs later, using the same mechanic as the Sniffer.
True to its name, Sniffer is a passive mob who wanders around aimlessly, sniffing their surroundings while avoiding hazards and obstacles. Occasionally, they press their nose to the ground and track seeds in the area. When they find a seed, Sniffers drop to the ground and use their nose to dig.
This results in a Torchflower seed, which can be used to create torchflowers by right clicking on farmland. These yellow-orange flowers have three stages of growth. As Torchflower itself does not drop seeds, players need to rely on the sniffers to acquire more.
5. Archaeology
Desert Temples and Desert Wells now contain Suspicious Sand. This fragile block is hard to spot and easy to destroy, so be careful! Brushing the Suspicious Sand with a Brush will extract objects that were buried long ago. Apparently, the spawn is going to be random - one can get anything from pottery shards to random objects.
Crafting four Pottery Shards together will create a Decorated Pot with a picture on each side. You can also use Brick items instead of Pottery Shards in the Decorated Pot recipe, however, the sides that were made from Brick items will not have pictures.
6. Bamboo block
Bamboo blocks are going to have all the functions a normal wood block has. Players can use bamboo wood to craft bamboo planks, blocks, and more.
Additionally, bamboo wood can also be used to create bamboo mosaic blocks, which have horizontal and vertical bamboo designs. They are going to be great decoration materials and can also be converted into stairs and slabs.
7. Chiseled bookshelf
Chiseled Bookshelf is a new bookshelf bock that can actually store books. After placing the Chiseled bookshelf, just equip the book item you want to store (books, books and quills, written books, and enchanted books), then right-click or use the secondary action key on the chiseled bookshelf. The chiseled bookshelf will get filled each time you place an item. Each shelf can store up to 6 books.
Just right-click or use the secondary action key on them to pick the books back (as long as you don't already have a book on your hand. The chiseled bookshelf follows a stack order so the item you place last will get removed first.
8. Cherry Wood block
Cherry is the 9th type of tree spawning in Minecraft. They are the biggest gift of the Cherry grove biome and spawn exclusively here. Cherry wood has a pink shade, which would look very pretty in builds.
-
The cherry trees in Minecraft have bright pink leaves with a hint of green branches behind them. They create atmospheric pink petal particles, which makes the biome looks very unique. Additionally, a single cherry tree carries enough leaves for 2-3 oak trees - this adds to the cheerful atmosphere of the biome without making it feel crowded.
9. Hanging Sign
Hanging signs are a new variant of signs that can be crafted using chains and signs. You can place them anywhere, even on the side and bottom of a block. This gives players more options for decoration.
For the most part, hanging signs operate much like standard signs. Players can input text, including certain hypertext, onto the signs and display them. Everything that works with normal signs will also work on hanging signs.
To craft hanging signs, players just need to place 2 chains in the first and third slot of the first row, then fill the second and third row of the crafting table with stripped log or bamboo.
10. New Mob Head feature
With the release of Minecraft 1.20, Mojang is introducing a new mechanic that lets you place mob heads on note blocks to play ambient mob sounds. It is a fun new mechanic that players can use to pull pranks or as doorbells. For example, the creeper mob head makes the sound of an exploding creeper.
Additionally, the Piglins can now drop their heads when killed by a charged creeper.
