Minecraft: How to Craft Copper Armor, Tools, and Chests

Minecraft’s got a fresh batch of tools, and it’s the first time since the 2020 Nether update dropped Netherite that players can mess around with new armor, tools, and weapons. Copper stuff isn’t as beefy as Netherite, but it’s a solid middle step to help you work your way up to the good stuff.

Right now, you can only craft these Copper items in Minecraft Preview. Just start a new world, head to Experiments, and turn on Drop 3 2025.

How to Craft Copper Armor in Minecraft

Copper Helmet

Copper Boots

Copper Leggings

Copper Chestplate

You craft Copper Armor on a Crafting Bench using the same patterns as Leather, Iron, Gold, or Diamond armor, but swap in Copper Ingots. Getting Copper Ingots is a breeze—just hit up any cave, mine Copper Veins with a Stone Pickaxe or better, and smelt the Copper Ore in a Furnace. Copper Armor’s better than Leather but doesn’t hold up as well as Iron or higher-tier stuff in terms of durability or damage protection.

To make a Copper Sword, use this recipe:

Copper weapons and tools follow the same crafting recipes as other materials, just use Copper Ingots instead of Stone, Iron, Gold, or Diamond. They’re a bit better than Stone gear—faster at mining, harvesting, and dealing damage, plus they last longer—but they’re not as good as Iron or above.

How to Craft Copper Chests in Minecraft

To make a Copper Chest, use this recipe:

You can only unlock the Copper Chest recipe in-game after crafting your first Copper Golem using a Carved Pumpkin and a Block of Copper. Once you’ve got the recipe, craft the Copper Chest with 8 Copper Ingots and 1 Chest in the middle of the Crafting Table. Copper Chests work just like regular Chests and can be doubled up, but they’re mostly useful as a sorting block for Copper Golems.
