Most mobs in Minecraft drop items when killed. Some drop food, while others drop crafting materials. In rare circumstances, certain mobs can even drop the gear they're wearing upon death. While most of the drop lists are not that useful, there are still some valuable items amongst them. In this article, Gurugamer is going to showcase the top 7 most useful mob drops in Minecraft.
1. Ender Pearls
When thrown, ender pearls teleport the user to the location it lands. This is very useful in getting over obstacles or escaping dangerous situations. On some terrains like a steep cliff or the nether, one must throw it carefully or risk taking heavy fall damage.
This is a very important item that players need to carry at all times when exploring the End. While falling into the void, they can just throw ender pearl at the surface of a block to teleport and survive. Ender pearl can be farmed from the endless waves of Endermen in this dimension
2. Blaze rods
Blaze rod is the other item that is needed to craft the Eye of Ender. Without it, it is impossible to progress further in Minecraft. They are dropped from a hostile mob in the Nether called Blaze, which is commonly found in the Nether Fortress.
Players can get blaze powder from blaze rods, which is the main component to fuel brewing stands and brew strength potions.
3. Music Disc
Music discs are unique items that can be played in jukeboxes. When killed by any skeleton or stray (or wither skeleton if given a bow using commands), a creeper drops a random music disc in addition to its normal drops. Exceptions include the newest music discs (Pigstep, otherside and 5).
4. Gunpowder
Gunpowder is an item that is used for explosion-related recipes. Players can use it to brew Splash Potions, craft Fireworks and TNT.
It is actually pretty rare. They can only spawn in chests or mob drops and cannot be crafted. You can get them from the following mobs:
- Creepers: drop 0-2 pieces of gunpowder upon death. Looting can increase this by one per level, with a maximum of 5 gunpowder.
- Ghasts: drop 0-2 pieces of gunpowder upon death. Looting can increase this by one per level, with a maximum of 5 gunpowder.
- Witches: drop 0-6 pieces of gunpowder upon death. Looting can increase this by three per level, with a maximum of 15 gunpowder.
Outside of drops, you can also get gunpowder from wandering traders (17% chance for 1 gunpowder), open desert temple chests or dungeon chests (60% chance for 1-8 gunpowder).
5. Phantom Membrane
The Elytra is probably one of the most valuable tools in Minecraft, as it gives players the ability to fly. However, flying consume durability and finding a second elytra to repair the first one is super costly.
This is where Phantom membranes come in. They can be used in an anvil to repair elytra, restoring 108 durability points (25% of the pair's total durability) per membrane while preserving their enchantments. Players can get them from Phantoms, which are flying undead hostile mobs that spawn when the player has not slept or died for three or more in-game days.
6. Trident
Unlike the sword or axe, the trident is a special weapon that can be thrown. A thrown trident deals 8 damage - this damage can be splashed in an area if the players enchant it with the Riptide enchantment.
The trident is not a craftable item in Minecraft, which means the only way to get one is by looting. It has a small chance of dropping from the Drowned. You can find this mob in the sea with a 15% chance of them spawning with a trident. You will have to kill your way in to get this item.
But be warned, the Drowned will swarm you the moment you get in the water. So be prepared!
7. Shulker shell
Crafting a Shulker Box is actually super easy. You only need two ingredients: Wood for chests, and Shulker Shells. Wood can be found all across the Minecraft world, so no problem there. However, getting hold of the Shulker Shells may be a little bit of a hassle.
Shulker Shells only drop from Shulker - a hostile mob that is exclusive to the End City. So, in order to obtain Shulker Shells to make the Shulker Box, you have to defeat the Ender Dragon first! It will unlock your path to the End world. Here you have to roam about until you find the End City.
