The life cycle for a PC single-player game is usually pretty short, with the playerbase dwindles down to a low number after 2 or 3 years. GTA V, however, seems to be outside of this rule, Currently, it is still in the top 10 most played game on Steam, with over 100k players every day.

In this article, we would reveal why the game managed to keep its player after nearly a decade since release.

1 - GTA Online

GTA Online is the online portion of GTA 5 where you create your own character and play with others, either just messing around on the map or doing missions (ranges from racing and clearing waves of cops to large heists which are more similar to the single-player campaign) to earn money so you can buy better cars and weapons.

The Stunning Numbers Behind Gta Online

This is probably the single most profitable game that Rockstar has ever made. Based on a recent report by Take-Two, GTA Online has made more money in December 2020 than any other period since its launch in 2013. This colludes with the Cayo Perico update back in November - Rockstar's biggest patch of the year. They also gave away GTA 5 for Free on Epic Games last year as well.

2 - Mods provides limitless replayability

If you're playing GTA 5 on PC, you would be able to get access to mods - a brand new world of content made by fans. While Rockstar never went through with their plans for making single-player DLC, modders jumped in to fill those shoes. Ranging from things such as graphical upgrades, vehicle model replacements adding real-life cars to the game and new weapons, all the way to wild ideas like complete overhauls, adding entirely new game mechanics, or adding new characters... you can vastly transform how the game looks and plays.

3 - Multiple releases over the years

Since the 2013 release for PS3 and Xbox 360, GTA 5 had had multiple releases for next-gen on Xbox One, PS 4, and Windows. Now? They are also scheduled for yet another remaster for the PS5 and Xbox Series X. The delay between GTA V and VI is too long. In the past, the PS2 has seen 3 GTA games in its lifetime... and now, GTA V outlasts 3 game consoles. It definitely makes sense, as developing games today is much harder than it was in the past.

Furthermore, A lot of people who owned the game on the current-gen would still buy the next-gen version.
