After ECS Finals Season 7 2019 finally came to an end, both MIBR & Complexity Gaming were eliminated in the ECS CS:GO season 7. However, there’s still an ongoing controversy between the two CS:GO teams.
What happened?
One incident occurred in the elimination match of Group B, in which coL defeated MIBR 2-1 in a best-of-three series with their latest addition of a 15-year-old talent Owen “oBo” Schlatter.
In the third and deciding map, during the 12th round, the head coach from Complexity, Matt Dickens (a.k.a “Warden”) pointed his finger on the screen to an enemy on Ricky “Rickeh” Mulholland's screen. The spotted player turned out to be João "felps" Vasconcellos. Take a look at the twitch clip below:
Apparently, Rickeh didn’t notice the presence of felps, who was hanging near the window at mid. Since the match was intensely contested, the player might have got nervous and missed the detail. Complexity's coach couldn’t resist the temptation and physically touched the spot on the screen for Rickeh. Obviously, his action was completely against the rules and the referee could have taken actions immediately. But it seems like the referee missed it.
According to one pro player, Valdemar "valde" Bjørn Vangså from North, in his game, the referee was occupied with his phone, neglecting his responsibilities
According to Warden, it was “completely reactionary” and totally a huge mistake. Warden apologized to MIBR players and Zews, saying that the team did warn Rickeh a few times about the enemy player. However, Rickeh didn’t notice that and Warden felt like he had to do that himself.
In summary
People blamed the referees for the in-game ignorance. In fact, many refs didn’t pay enough attention to the game and were on their phones. In general, this is an unfavorable incident and there should be no room for this sort of unprofessional approach in this high level of CS:GO competition.
