The changes included in Fortnite Ch 2 Season 3 are huge. The familiar Fortnite map is no longer recognizable – there are new weapons, new challenges, and more. This was caused by the failed Device Experiment from the previous season – half of the map was flooded as the result. There are new points of interest on the map like sharks, whirlpools, Aquaman and a lot more. New Marauder NPCs and Weapon Changes are just the start.
Below are the 7 biggest changes in Fortnite that you definitely need to know about.
1 – The new map of Fortnite Ch 2 Season 3 is filled with water
The Flood is probably the biggest change ever made to the Fortnite map. It is now filled with water. Old locations like Pleasant Park and Frenzy Farm have been redesigned – they now feature houses placed on inflatables. There’s also some new location to discover – you would be able to find one of the new Vault of the island on a location called Fortilla.
2 – The new Battlepass is filled with exciting rewards
Fortnite releases a new battle pass every season, and this one is not an exception. With season 3 revolving around the water theme, it is not a surprise that Aquaman has become part of the Fortnite universe. Similar to Deadpool in the previous season, he would come with a set of challenges that would unlock over time and award players different styles for completing. The rest of the pass is other water-themed items like the gliders, contrails and emoticons… along with a new pet, Kit.
3 – Whirlpools and Sharks are the new methods to get around the map
With all the water around, it is not a surprise that the former Fortnite island is now infested with Sharks. These giant beasts would roam the waters around the island – make sure that you don’t spend too long underwater. To move around using sharks, use a fishing rod and hook on them while wearing a water ski. Don’t underestimate these guys – they can destroy structures and even attack you on land if the island is small enough. On the other hand, Whirlpools would launch players into the air and let them redeploy gliders. These pools can be found all over the island.
4 – Defeat the Marauder NPCs on the map to get high-level gears
Marauder is an upgraded version of the henchmen from the previous season – they are much more mobile and can teleport all around the map to attack people. Similar to the henchmen, who are still around patrolling bases, they would drop useful items – for example, you would get an Epic RPG when taking down a Heavy Marauder. These guys hit pretty hard and have the tendency to appear without warning, however – you have to be careful. If a player appears when you are fighting them, things can get messy pretty fast.

5 – New vaults to explore and bosses to fight
With the island filled with water, some of the vaults and bosses from last season have been changed. If you want to acquire those mythic weapons, you would have to get to those new locations.
- The Authority can be found in the center of the island, where the agency was in the last season. Jules can be found in this location – by eliminating him, you would get his Glider Gun (an infinite grappler), his drum gun, and the Authority Key Card for the vault.
- Catty Corner would replace the old box factory in G6. Kill Kit here and you would get his Charge shotgun, shockwave grenade launcher, and a key card to open the vault.
- In the Fortilla in B6-7 you would find Ocean – he would drop a burst assault rifle, a bottomless chug jug, and a key card when killed.
6 – New weapons are added to the game along with vault items
The Charge Shotgun has replaced the now vaulted Pump in the update. The P90 has been unvaulted – you would get a new option in close combat if the Charge is not up to your standards. Besides that, the new throwable Firefly Jar and the new Flare Gun would definitely add some chaos to the map with their fire-based power, forcing targets to jump into the water.
Both Hunting rifles and Bolt action sniper rifles also return from the Vault so that you would get more options at long range. The final additions are the mythic boss weapons mentioned above – they are all overpowered, making the competition for the Vault area even more intense.
7 – Cars and Trucks are going to be added soon
These ground-based vehicles are heavily featured in the trailer of season 3, with a part showing two vehicles, a pickup truck and a sports car, in a high-speed chase. Not sure how they are going to do that, however, as the whole map is filled with water at the moment. The cars might be amphibious, so there’s that.
8 – Build your own glider with the Build-a-brella feature
Players would be able to custom a completely new glider in season 3 – this time, it takes the form of an umbrella. From the basics like colors to structure design like canopy, shaft, topper, trail color and bottom cap – players would eventually be able to modify everything as they get more battle pass levels.
