Bringing a sword to a gunfight is definitely a bad idea, as you would be shot dead first before you can get close. Free Fire is not an exception - melee weapons in this game are next to useless and nobody wants to use them. However, sometimes you still need to pull out your machetes, as they are part of completing various achievements and arcade game modes.
In this article, we would list out the top 5 abilities to use with melee weapons in Free Fire.
1 - Kla's Muay Thai
Kla's Muay Thai increases the damage dealt by his fist. At max level, it quintuples Kla's fist damage - one punch with Kla's ability would be the equivalent of 5 normal punches. Muay Thai alone makes unarmed combat viable in Free Fire - you can move incredibly fast while holding no weapons.
There is a reason that Kla is the most picked character in the game.
2 - Hayato Firebrand's Art of Blades
Hayato Firebrand is the awakened form of Hayato... with a new ability that focuses on melee combat. When active, Art of Blades would reduce all frontal damage taken by 40% - this means you are supposed to activate this and run at your enemies swinging. Overall, it is moderately useful if you are going to do some melee - firing your gun once would stop the effect.
In the OB27 patch, Hayato Firebrand's ability would gain the effect of normal Hayato's Bushido skill, which increases armor penetration with lower HP. This means instead of wasting 100% of the skill slot for the melee combat ability, you would still gain the armor-piercing effect regardless of the weapon you use.
3 - Alok's Drop the Beat
And amongst those OP characters, the most powerful is probably Alok. His “Drop the Beat” ability would increase players’ movement speed and heal them for the duration, which is the two best buffs in the game.
It is pretty much three abilities combined into 1, as abilities in Free Fire usually only do one thing. He can run faster than Kelly while healing 25% of his full HP in 10 seconds... and the effect also affects teammates nearby.

4 - Chrono's Time Turner
Chrono's skill is called "Time Turner" - it would create a small bubble with 600 HP that you and your allies can get in. You can move faster and shoot targets outside while in the bubble... but your enemy has to destroy the bubble to get to you. Allies would get half the movement speed bonus.
It effectively forces enemies to retreat or put up their own bubble. It is the perfect defense that stops all gunfires while allowing you to shoot back. In close-quarter, you can just drop the shield to stop enemy fire then rush them.
5 - Joseph's Nutty Movement
Whenever Joseph takes damage, his movement speed and sprinting speed would be increased massively for a short duration. Overall, this ability is best in melee fights - after getting shot, you could quickly escape, run toward a cover, or try to flank your enemy. There are usages for it in long-range fights as well, as the speed would let you get to a cover much faster.
