Just a couple of days ago, we reported on Warhammer: Odyssey, an upcoming ambitious MMORPG set in the Warhammer universe. Now, during an interview with The Gamer, the developer has revealed more information about the game.
We already know that Odyssey will take place in Warhammer’s Old World, featuring various familiar locations. The developer also says that it plans to introduce more areas through episodic expansions in the future. The game is intended to be a long-term project, so players can expect plenty of additional content post-launch.
In term of the gameplay, the team’s main goal is to “bring the Warhammer world to life” and allow players to feel what it’d be like to actually live in that fantasy world. They want this to be a classic PvE-focused MMORPG experience – a PC game that you can play on the go – and as a result, there will be no autoplay.
As for PvP, not a lot of details are available, as the developer says it’s “still too early to discuss publicly.” They do have plans for it, though, so we can expect it to arrive in a post-launch update.
All in all, things are looking quite promising. From what we imagine, Warhammer: Odyssey will be something along the line of Ultima Online or Everquest, with gameplay optimized for the mobile platform. The lack of autoplay might be a turn off for some, but for us, it’s an absolute plus. After all, what’s the point of playing a game while most of the time all you do is sit back and watch things play on their own?
There is no information on the monetization model yet, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see some cosmetic IAPs included.
The release date for the game is still unclear as well, but it’ll be available on both Android and iOS.
