We already knew that Cyberpunk 2077 was going to be a sexually explicit game. The development studio itself, CD Projekt RED, has spoken on more than one occasion about how they are approaching the subject in the game, and recently we saw how the Brazilian rating system classified it as "over 18" for containing explicit sexual representations. What we did not know was how graphical and extensive these representations would be.
Apparently, and according to another age rating agency, Cyberpunk 2077 is so authentic with respect to human anatomy that it will allow you to personalize the genital attributes of V, the protagonist of the game. Within the character editor, we can not only select the most common physical features (face, head shape, complexion, etc...) but we can also choose the shape and size of the chest, buttocks, and even genitals.
Customizing genitals, having sex from your perspective, etc. in Cyberpunk 2077
This has been described by ESRB, the American age rating agency, which has also marked Cyberpunk 2077 as exclusive for those over 18 years of age:
"The game contains nudity and sexual material. Players can select a gender and customize their character; customization can include depictions of breasts, buttocks, and genitalia, as well as various sizes and combinations of genitals."
Furthermore, the long-awaited Cyberpunk 2077 will come with sex scenes in a first-person perspective, but won't be interactive. In addition to the explicit scenes, the game will also feature sexual NPCs (non-controllable characters), both male and female.
This information was previously unknown, although the agency does refer to the variety of sexual actions that are represented in Cyberpunk 2077, that coincide with details that we already knew, such as that we will see "character's head moving towards a partner's crotch" or that "players can encounter events where they have the option to engage in sexual activities with other main characters or prostitutes."
The information is contained in a report by the Australian classification board, which considered the sci-fi RPG a game for adults. The report's description indicates that the game's prostitution services resemble those of Grand Theft Auto (GTA). In addition to hiring sex workers, the player can also engage in in-game romance.
There are also details of a mission in a sex shop, with costumes and toys displayed throughout the store. "Mannequins are posed inside glass cabinets in various sexual positions, including a simulation of rear-entry sex," it describes.
There are apparently no scenes of sexual violence in the game, but the report says the theme "is sometimes inextricably linked to the narrative". As for common violence, the game spared no resources. Blood and exposed viscera and fractures will also be there. There is no mention of drug use.
Just a few days ago CD Projekt RED spoke of the difficulties when it comes to representing nudity in video games, especially when it comes to that of the main character. The Polish studio recognized that the age classification agencies aggressively make sure that the protagonist of a video game can not be controlled without clothes. That was the reason we didn't see Geralt of Rivia naked in The Witcher 3.
Cyberpunk 2077 will premiere on September 17 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, though it will also come to PS5, Xbox Series X, and Stadia later. At the moment the coronavirus will not affect its launch and, in fact, on June 11 it will have its own digital event in which news of the game will be shown.
