There are so many things to do and explore in the sandbox game of Minecraft. You have to collect all sorts of materials from the surrounding world and craft the best equipment to beat the final boss. But then again, some materials get more attention than others. Flint in Minecraft takes a step back from the spotlight, yet, it doesn't mean that flint is completely useless.
Read on to find out what you can do with flint in Minecraft and where to find it in the game.
How To Get Flint In Minecraft
Flint is a mineral obtained from breaking gravel blocks in Minecraft. When a block of gravel is mined, it has a 10% chance of dropping a single piece of flint instead of the gravel block. Using a Fortune-enchanted tool will greatly increase the chance, up to 100% at Fortune III. However, using a tool with Silk Touch or letting the gravel fall on a non-solid block never produces flint.
Another way to acquire flint in Minecraft is through trading with villagers. Villagers with the Fletcher profession will sell 10 pieces of flint for 10 blocks of gravel and Emerald. It's not a great price to take, but if you're desperate to find some flint, every way is a great way.
Last but not least, loot chests in the Overworld also have a chance to contain some flint pieces. So, get to looting!
Note: If you're mining at the bottom of a gravel reservoir, be careful. Gravel has the same falling mechanic as sand. All gravel blocks in a column will fall down if you take out a bottom block.
What Can You Use Flint For?
Flint is the essential material required to craft arrows in Minecraft. If you decide to play with a bow or a crossbow, be sure to collect as many flints as possible to craft arrows. A good trick is to mine up 50 blocks of gravel. Place them all on the ground and use a shovel to break them. Repeat the process to get unlimited flint in Minecraft.
Another very important item that you can craft with flint is the Flint and Steel. It's crucial to activate Nether Portals, where you must go to access mid-game content and prepare for the fight with Ender Dragon.
Fletching Tables can also be crafted using a Flint to transform a Villager into a Fletcher.
