Gear 5 is almost here – and fans are brimming with anticipation for the new direction the series is heading, along with the new game mode and story. According to a lot of rumors that have been lying around, Gears 5 will be the largest Gears of War ever, with massive open levels. One of the inside sources also cited that amongst all the levels, there would be one level so gigantic – bigger than the maps of all the previous gears game combined.
Rod Fergusson, Head of the Developer team, has recently revealed a few details regarding Gears 5 during a panel in Seattle. According to his information, Gears 5 will ditch the corridor shooter style and replace it with a big battlefield. Some maps are so huge that the dev had to put in a map to help the player navigate. However, the drawback of this is that Gears 5 will use up a large number of assets for its levels.
What would happen in Act 2 and 3 would be players trying to get through one of the biggest level ever built with a water skiff, while fighting ambushes from the enemies on the way. The keyword here is levels – which means there might be more than one of those big maps. It does make sense, since with all the assets created, making another big level is not too hard.
Another new feature coming to Gears 5 is Jack the companion bot. He would float around, stick to the players’ side, and provide a couple of bonus that will be unlocked during the course of the game. Overall, it can be said that Jack would be another layer of RPG added to the game. He can heal, cloak and even fight along with the player.
Gears 5’s official release date is Sept 10, however, Game Pass Ultimate owners can get it four days earlier. Neil Druckmann, The Last of Us 2’s Director, has officially endorsed the graphics of this game, but it remains to be seen if all the changes in gameplay actually work. Gears 5 will be launched on PC and Xbox One.
