Shadowmere is hands-down one of the top horses in Oblivion Remastered. She’s super fast and can hold her own in a fight. But if you lose track of her, good luck—she’s a pain to find again because of all the different paths the game can take that change where she ends up. To help you out, here’s a quick rundown on how to snag Shadowmere in Oblivion and track her down if she goes missing. This works for both the original game and the Remastered version.
How to Get Shadowmere in Oblivion
You’ll get Shadowmere from Lucien Lachance after finishing “The Purification” quest in the Dark Brotherhood storyline. To get there, just keep knocking out all the contract quests from Lucien and Ocheeva in the Dark Brotherhood, and Shadowmere will be yours before long.
How to Find Shadowmere Again in Oblivion
Wait at Fort Farragut
Shadowmere has a habit of vanishing if you leave her alone for too long. If she’s not at the stables of the last city you visited, she’s supposed to head back to Fort Farragut, just east of Cheydinhal. This can take a while in-game, so if you only recently lost her and she’s at the stables, try backtracking to where you last left her and follow the main road toward Fort Farragut until you spot her.
Heads-up: in the original Oblivion, some weird horse armor rules could stop Shadowmere from going back to Fort Farragut, and it looks like the Remastered version has the same issue. If you put armor on her and she’s not at Fort Farragut or the stables, check the last place you left her.
Spawn a new Shadowmere
If something like a random fight messes up her path, and you’re on PC, you can use console commands to teleport to her or spawn a new Shadowmere. Just know that using commands turns off achievements. Finally, if Shadowmere dies, you might need to wait 10+ in-game days for her to respawn. After that, try the steps above to find her again.
- To teleport Shadowmere to you: player.placeatme 00032BF4 1
- To respawn shadowmere: Player.PlaceAtMe 00032BF4
- And if you wanted to make the horse essential so she doesn’t die: SetEssential 00032BF4
