Want to live the sneaky life in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered and join the Thieves Guild? This guide breaks down the steps to get you in with the slickest crew in Cyrodiil.
Trigger the Invitation
Get yourself in a bit of trouble by doing something small like swiping an apple or pickpocketing. Get caught and do a quick 1-2 day stint in jail. Don’t go wild with stuff like murder—it’ll mess things up.
Or, just find one of those "Thieves Guild Wanted" posters around the Imperial City (check the Waterfront or Market District). Read it, and your journal will nudge you toward the guild.
Meet Armand Christophe
Once you’re out of jail or have read a poster, head to the Imperial City Waterfront District at midnight. Look for Armand Christophe, a Redguard guy hanging out by a fire with some other guild folks in the garden behind the shacks.
If he’s not there, chill until midnight or fast-travel to the Waterfront to refresh the area. Make sure you haven’t snitched on the guild to guards or started quests that clash with this.
Start the Quest "May the Best Thief Win"
Talk to Armand. He’ll size you up and give you a test: race two other wannabe thieves, Methredhel and Amusei, to nab Amantius Allectus’ diary from his place in the Imperial City Temple District.
You’ve got to grab it first and bring it back to Armand to prove you’re the real deal.
Complete the Initiation Task
- Find the House: Amantius’ house is in the Temple District. Book it there right after talking to Armand, ‘cause Methredhel and Amusei aren’t waiting around.
- Get Inside: The door’s locked (how tough depends on your level). Use your Security skill and some lockpicks to crack it. Sneak if guards or NPCs are nearby to avoid trouble. The house is usually empty, but Amantius might be home.
- Grab the Diary: Look for a desk on the ground floor, usually to the right. The diary’s in or on it, no lock needed. Snag it fast before Methredhel shows up and tries to beat you to it.
Tips to Win
Hustle to the Temple District ASAP to stay ahead of Methredhel. If she grabs the diary first, you can try pickpocketing it off her (needs solid Sneak skill) or switch to the backup plan.
Don’t kill Amantius or break guild rules—no murder during theft.
Backup Plan: If Methredhel wins, Armand gives you another shot: steal Rohssan’s Antique Cutlass from "A Fighting Chance" in the Market District. Pick the lock on the upstairs chest, grab the cutlass, and bring it back to Armand.
