The Nether is one of the three dimensions in Minecraft. It is hell-like and contains a lot of lava and weird underground lifeforms.

There are a number of useful blocks that players can only get in the Nether and not the Overworld. In this article, Gurugamer is going to showcase the top 10 useful blocks to get in the Nether.

1. Ancient Debris

Ancient debris is a rare ore found in the Nether, and is the main source of netherite scraps. It is immune to fire and most explosions.

To acquire a full set of end-game items and tools, farming for Ancient Debris is a must. As it is immune to explosions, players can dig into the ground and use bed explosions for blast-farming. Netherite gears deal more damage, have more durability and are more efficient.

2. Soul Sand

Soul Sand is a block found naturally only in the Nether and ancient cities. They usually slow down the movement of mobs and players walking on top of it, unless the player has Soul Speed enchanted boots.

Additionally, Soul Sand is also used for growing nether warts, crafting items that emit soul fire, creating a water elevator, and constructing a wither.

How to summon a Wither in Minecraft.

To summon a wither in Minecraft, you need to get three Wither Skulls by farming Wither Skeletons. Build a T block with Soul Sand or Soul Soil, then place the three skulls on top. Upon spawning, the Wither would cause a big explosion, clear out everything in the area.

Bubble Column Water Elevator
A water elevator in Minecraft - a player can restore breath by entering a soul sand's bubble column.

Placing soul sand under source water blocks creates a lifting bubble column, which causes items, entities, players, and mobs inside the column to rise to the surface. The bubble column extends upward through any number of empty water source blocks (not waterlogged blocks).

3. Magma Block

A magma block is a light-emitting naturally-occurring block found in the Nether and the Overworld. This is an essential block for building a water elevator.

When a water source is directly above a magma block, a whirlpool bubble column is created, going downward from the highest source block. Anything encountering the bubble column is pulled down, including items, boats, players, and mobs.

A player can restore breath underwater by entering a magma block's bubble column.

4. Nether Gold Ore

Nether gold ore is a variant of gold ore found only in the Nether. It is otherwise identical to normal gold ore.

Piglins become hostile toward players that mine the ore, regardless if the player is wearing gold armor or is under the Invisibility effect.

5. Nether Quartz Ore

Shroomlights are light-emitting blocks that generate in huge fungi. Both crimson and warped huge fungi can generate shroomlights near the top.

They provide a light level of 15, the highest level in the game. Overall, players can use this block for base decoration.

7. Glowstone

Glowstone is a light-emitting block that occurs in branching structures, found hanging from ceilings and overhangs in the Nether. Similar to Shroomlights, Glowstone blocks emit a light level of 15, the brightest possible light level in the game.

They can be used to craft respawn anchors and redstone lamps. Although glowstone can only be found in block form in the Nether, all renewable ways of obtaining glowstone are accessed through the Overworld.

Players can create a witch farm to get glowstone dust, which can be crafted into glowstone blocks.

8. Nether/Warped Wart Block

Nether wart blocks are decorative blocks found in crimson forests and crafted using 9 nether warts. Warped wart blocks are a turquoise variant found in warped forests, but cannot be crafted, unlike Nether wart blocks.
