Minecraft 1.18 Caves and Cliffs update will come out today, bringing a major overhaul to the entire Overworld. It is going to change how worlds are generated altogether, with new biomes of mountains and underground caves. In this article, we are going to list out the top 5 structure changes in Minecraft 1.18.

1. Amethyst geodes

An amethyst geode is an underground structure found in Overworld biomes. Amethyst geodes contain smooth basalt, calcite, and are the only source to grow amethyst shards and blocks. In version 1.17, these structures generate below Y level 70... which is pretty close to the surface. However, in 1.18, they are going to be much harder to find - players will need to dig below Y level 30 to locate them.

This change is likely done to prevent amethyst geodes from generating on the surface. In order to locate amethyst, exploring underwater caves or deep caves might be a good idea.

2. Mineshafts

A mineshaft is a generated structure found underground or underwater, having mazes of tunnels with cave spiders and ores exposed on the walls or floor regularly. In 1.18, they are going to be integrated with the various new caves so that the structure blends better together. For example, in cheese caves, Mineshaft will be hanging from chains and supported by logs.

3. Desert temple

A desert temple, commonly referred to as a desert pyramid, is a sandstone structure generated in deserts. Each pyramid has a hidden chamber containing loot that is protected by a TNT trap. Sometimes these structures have a tendency to generate on top of the water or under the ground. This looks fairly odd, as the hidden chamber would also be submerged in water.

This issue has been fixed in the 1.18 update. Desert temples now generate properly at a fixed Y level instead of getting buried underground or levitated over water.

4. Pillager outposts

A pillager outpost is an assortment of structures inhabited by pillagers. The mountain biomes in Minecraft 1.18 are going to be home to them, with many of the biomes eligible for pillager outpost generation. This will make players' adventure in the mountains much more exciting.

Villages will also spawn in the vicinity as well - players will be able to build their own bases and start in the region.

5. Dungeons

Dungeons, also referred to as monster rooms in their ID, are structures that appear in the Overworld that contain spawners. They are the primary source for spawner farms in Minecraft. In 1.18 worlds, players will be able to find more of them now, especially below Y level 0.

Mojang has increased the chance for dungeon generation in the deep levels of the overworld. They will also be integrated with caves, similar to the Mineshafts.
