While PUBG Mobile is still banned in India, it seems that organizer has found a new way to make money, by selling tournaments slots. Ujwal "inyodream" Chaudhari is an ex-Fnatic player, who is now playing for Oldskool.gg has revealed in an Instagram post that there are teams and players who pay their way to be in Tier 1 tournaments and scrims.
According to him, organizers demands teams to pay from Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000 to get a slot in their tournament. This offer is mostly for newly found teams who want to play against the best teams such as TSM, Fnatic in Tier tournaments/ scrims. There are tier 1 teams who can play better but didn't get invited because of those pay-to-play teams.
Moreover, inyodream also claims that top teams such as Fnatic, TSM, GodLike, and Xspark clearly know about this but still decide to play tournaments with those teams and "don't want to talk about it". And to answer to people who say that teams need exposure, inyodream says that if that is the case then the chance should be available for every team each day instead to make it fair.
PUBG Mobile has been banned in India for more than4 months already with almost no sign of returning. Many teams are still trying to hold on and play behind the curtain. But it is hard to maintain an esports scene without tournaments, sponsor hip, and deals. The PUBG Mobile esports scene in India is slowly dying and something need to be done as soon as possible.
