Minecraft is a gigantic game and does not have any end. Usually, it would take dozens if not hundreds of hours to complete the game. However, most players agree that killing the ender dragon and entering the exit portal is the nearest to an "ending" the game has.

With this in mind, a new type of playthrough has been created revolving around beating the Ender dragon as fast as possible: Speedrunning. In this article, Gurugamer is going to showcase the 5 best tips and tricks For Speedrunning in Minecraft 1.19.

1. Get a shield

A shield should be one of the first things you craft in Minecraft speedrunning, as it is an easy and cheap tool to block monster attacks. Players only need one iron ingot and 6 planks to make one.

Players might need multiple shields as they might run out of durability.

The most useful feature of the shield is to defend against projectiles of any kind:

  • Most blocked projectiles that carry status effects (such as shulker bullets‌, flaming arrows, or tipped arrows) do not affect the blocker.
  • Knockback from melee attacks and projectiles is prevented, while knockback from explosions, hoglin, and ravager attacks are significantly reduced.
  • Tridents & arrows can be deflected into other targets.

2. Practice Bed Explosion

Due to the special mechanic that doesn't allow players to sleep in beds while they are in the End, all beds explode here upon use. Bed explosions deal a lot of damage and are the main way for you to kill the Ender Dragon in Speedrun.

Red Bed
The unassuming bed is actually your most powerful weapon in the End.

To kill the Enderdragon with beds, you'll need some beds. First-timers should bring along 12-15 beds. These beds can be stolen from villager houses or crafted with just three wool and three wooden planks each.

To avoid the explosion damage from a bed, players need to place it on the other side of a block.

3. Practice Bucket Falls

The way players interact with water is pretty wonky in Minecraft. As long as you touch a water surface at the end, fall damage from any height gets reduced to zero. This results in a "Water bucket trick", in which you create a water surface right before the fall to eliminate fall damage.

Below is how you can do the trick:

  • Put a water bucket into the hotbar and be ready to use it.
  • Switch to the water bucket while falling
  • Dispense the bucket of water right before impact with the ground to nullify the damage. This trick needs some practice to get used to.

4. Get Ender Pearls and Blaze Powder quickly

To get to the End dimension, players need to create an Eye of Ender and activate the End portal within a Stronghold.

End portals require a total of 12 eyes of ender in order to activate, though each individual frame-block has a 10% chance of containing an eye of ender when generated.

Eyes of ender can be created using Ender Pearl and Blaze Powder, which can be acquired from Endermen and Blazes respectively. This is the trickiest part to get a good run, as killing a number of dangerous mobs with weak gear can be pretty problematic.

How to get Blaze Powder

Blazes spawn in Nether Fortresses and are fairly easy to kill. Their attacks can be blocked completely with a shield. They also spawn around a spawner so players will have an easier time getting at least 6 blaze rods.

As blazes drop rods that can be turned into 2 powders each, clearing them out is easier.

Finding the Nether Fortress is the issue here - the fastest way to do this is to use a seed.

How to get Ender Pearls

Farming Endermen in Warped Forests is the most straightforward way. However, defeating Endermen is not very easy as they are among the most dangerous mobs in Minecraft against lightly geared players.

Warped Forest
Endermen usually spawn in the Warped Forest biome.

To kill Endermen, it's important to attack their legs so they can't teleport. Do not aim at them with a bow and arrow as they can teleport before your weapon can touch them. Moreover, try to find a solid spot where you can lean your back against. This strategy will prevent the Endermen from teleporting behind and catching you by surprise.

Players can also barter with piglins to get Ender Pearl, but this method is completely random and therefore unreliable.

5. Practice building Nether Portals with water and lava

Players need to create a Nether Portal to get into the Nether to find Blaze Rods and Ender Pearls. This means consistently creating a Nether portal is a must, as finding ruined portals in the overworld is much harder than getting water and lava.

Below is a step-by-step guide to creating a nether portal with just water and lava:

  • Firstly, get 10 lava source blocks in buckets, and a bucket of water. You don't need all 10 at one, but try to have at least 2 lava buckets. Build a mold out of dirt for the bottom. It should be a trench, 1 wide, 2 to 4 long.
  • Fill each block of the trench with lava, then place the water on a mold block to flood the lava so that it turns into obsidian. Extend your frame upward and repeat the process to create the next layers. Three levels of two separated pits are needed for the portal sides, then another trench for the top.
  • Finally, dig away the dirt around the portal and light it up. Keep the portal inside a lit building in the nether.
