Lu "Somnus丶M" Yao or Maybe is currently the mid player for PSG.LGD. He has helped the team to be dominant in the Chinese Dota 2 scene for a long period of time. However, with his young age of 24, impulsive actions are unavoidable. He recently got into a racist incident when commenting on a public thread on Weibo
Racist comments
In the recent incident, Lu "Somnus丶M" Yao or Maybe made a few unacceptable lines. It happened on his personal Weibo account when he was commenting on a public thread about the recent performance of LGD. The remark he gave was rather severe and caustic that some people even deemed it racist.
Maybe later released a public statement about his own behavior. He stated that it was his wrongdoings and would accept any kind of punishment LGD. He would be more careful about his wordings and behaviors.
The decision from the manager
Afterward, PSG.LGD decided to fine Maybe an amount of $7,274 or 500,000 ₹.
The PSG.LGD manager also stated publicly that they felt sorry for the incident. They took time and came up with a punishment of 50,000 RMB, which is roughly $7,274. The Chinese Esports organization also stressed that they would be more careful in educating their players about public behaviors.
The incident happened inside Chinese social media and not in an official match or pub game of Dota 2. Since it is not involved in Dota 2 game, Valve is unlikely to make any move towards the issue like they did with Kuku. The problem seems to be settled with just that.
Racism has always been a problem in Dota 2. Esports players, in general, are young athletes. They tend to act and speak openly and without much thought of consequence. We have had many cases of racism remarks where professional players could not control their own temper and spit out inappropriate words. They should learn from other's mistakes and avoid committing the same questionable wrongdoings.
