GTA 5 The Jewel Store Job heist is the first heist mission in the game. In this heist, Michael enlists the help of Franklin, Lester, a driver, a gunman, and a hacker to rob a Vangelico jewelry store to pay back money to Martin Madrazo for wrecking the house of Natalia Zverovna, Martin's girlfriend.
According to a mission in The Diamond Casino Heist DLC, the Smart Approach is the canon choice of the protagonists.

1 - Preparation for the heist
Each approach would have its own preparation missions. They are fairly straightforward - you only need to steal a few things in order to begin your heist.
Smart approach
- The first mission is called Bugstars Equipment, which would have you steal a van from the Bugstars company.
- The second prep mission is BZ Gas Grenades, in which your job is to steal gas grenades from a van driving around the city.
Loud Approach
You only need to do one prep mission in this approach - Carbine Rifles. This involves stealing a couple of rifles from an LSPD tactical van.

Smart Approach
Michael would drop Franklin off at the building site while the driver and gunman camp in front of the jewelers inside the Bugstars. Players must control Franklin to traverse and get to the roof of the building, chucking a can of tear gas into the air vent. After the gas knocks everyone out, the player (as Michael) can get in along with the gunman and the driver to rob the store.
The amount of time available before the alarm start would be based on the hacker you hired... however, anyone would do, as 50 seconds are enough to bring everything out. A poor gunman (norm Richards) would drop some of the jewels while escaping, which lowers the take by about $400k.
Loud Approach
Everyone drives up to the store, with the gunman hold the hostages at gunpoint while the other ransacking the jewelry displays. A poor gunman (Norm Richards) would fail in dealing with the hostages and Michael would have to shoot the manager before he triggers the alarm.
A poor driver (Karim Denz) will drop some of the jewelry, which lowers the take by about $400k.
Escape
Both approaches lead to the same escape: Franklin gets on a bike to escape along with the gunman and the driver. A low-skilled gunman would crash the bike and die, dropping the jewels. The bag would be lost if not picked up. The player would also be hit with a significant casualty expense
Eventually, they ended up at the Los Santos River, surrounded by a pack of police cars. Michael and the hacker then arrive in a delivery truck to push the cops out and save them - a shootout ensures. Once you have escaped pursuit from the police, the crew would load the bikes onto the truck and are driven to Lester's lockup where the crew splits up.
After the robbery, the store is closed down for the rest of the game and panels will now cover the windows and doors, stating that the store is "Undergoing renovations."

3 - How To Get Maximum Revenue
To get the most money possible out of this heist, just pick the Smart approach and hire Packie McReary as the gunman, Karim Denz as the driver, and Rickie Lukens as the hacker. This will net Franklin $293,539 and Michael $1,223,073.

4 - Gold Medal Objectives
- Quick Grab - Steal the jewelry within 50 seconds: Move as fast as possible with either approach - all that's required for this achievement is that you grab the $3.3 million in jewelry and leave the store in just 50 seconds.
Hire a good gunman (Gus or Packie) in the Loud approach so that you won't have to deal with the store manager. Use the first-person view to remove the delay between breaking glass animations. Michael's special ability can be used before breaking the glass to save some time.
- Clean Sweep - Steal the jewelry from all 20 glass cabinets: Move fast and use either Gustavo Mota or Patrick McReary as the gunman (for loud) and Eddie Toh as the driver.
- Protégé Protected - Protect Franklin during the LS River chase: Just make sure that Franklin is not killed by the LSPD during the battle.
