Mobs are the main source for quite a few items in Minecraft. Farming them can actually yield much better results than exploring the world and manually mining.

In this article, Gurugamer is going to showcase the 10 useful mobs to farm in Minecraft 1.19.

1. Zombies

Zombie Spawner has a 50% chance to spawn in the center of a dungeon. Players can create a zombie farm for Rotten Flesh, Iron Ingots, Gears and Armor. Players can even drown them to create a drowned farm.

Zombie Spawners' high rate is why the zombies are the most common mob for XP farming.

Unlike other big structures like Nether Fortress, you can't find the Dungeons in Minecraft using a normal game mechanic. Furthermore, unlike most generated structures, dungeons cannot be located with /locate either.

To locate a dungeon, players need to use third-party extensions like chunkbase.com. Load up the site and type in your seed to generate a map of your world. The potential locations for dungeon spawns will be marked on your map.

2. Ghasts

Ghasts are large white floating ghost-like hostile mobs in the Nether that shoots explosive fireballs at the player. They are amongst the most annoying mob in the game, with their combination of flying and a ranged attack. They drop ghast tears and gunpowder, which are high tier ingredients for brewing and crafting.

Players can create a ghast farm in the soul sand valley to farm ghast tear and gunpowder.

3. Guardian

Guardians are pufferfish-like hostile mobs that spawn in and around ocean monuments. By farming them, players can obtain valuable ingredients such as prismarine shards, crystals, and fish. They only spawn in Ocean Monuments, which can only be found in deep ocean biomes. Players can either explore randomly to stumble upon one, or use the command /locate monument to get the coordinate of the nearest Monument.

Elder Guardian
Elder Guardian is an unique variant of the Guardian.

Guardian spawns in water blocks within a 58×24×58 volume of the monument, usually from its base (usually Y=39) to just above the decorative structure at the top (usually Y=61).

Players need prismarine to create a conduit.

Elder Guardians are the elite version of the Guardians, with better stats and a special ability called "mining fatigue" that prevents players from breaking blocks. There is no avoiding this, as it is an aura that affects an area of 50 blocks around them. Usually, players need to kill all 3 Guardians to mine prismarine from the Monuments.

4. Enderman

Enderman most commonly spawns in warped forests. They drop the valuable Ender Pearl, which can be used to teleport and make an Eye of Ender. The Eye is a valuable item that allows players to locate and ignite End portals. Furthermore, they can also be used to craft the valuable Ender chests and End crystals.

This is why farming Enderman is definitely something you must do in the Nether. It is crucial to wear a carved pumpkin to prevent them from going hostile. By naming an Endermite and trapping it in a minecart, a permanent lure is created, and all Endermen that spawn within 62 blocks and sight of the Endermite would pathfind to the Endermite and attack it. These Endermen can then be routed to a collection point where they can be farmed.

5. Pillagers

Pillager outposts are great structures to create illager EXP farms. Players can easily create an EXP farm from this while getting various drops like Emeralds or crossbows. However, the biggest benefit from this is the Bad Omen interaction - players can kill the illager captains to get the free Bad Omen buff to trigger a raid.

6. Piglin

Piglins are neutral mobs that spawn in crimson forests, nether wastes, and bastion remnants. Wear any piece of Gold armor to make them friendly with you. As piglins run away from zombified piglins, soul fire, soul torches, soul campfires, and soul lanterns, you can use one of those items to lead piglins toward your farm then cage them in with blocks.

Afterward, give them a piece of gold armor or name tag them to prevent despawning.

7. Blaze

In the Nether Fortress, players can find one or two blaze spawners on fenced platforms with full-block "stairs" leading up to them. Normally two are generated per fortress, but there can be fewer.

Blaze drops blaze rods, which are amazing fuels for brewing and crafting. Their exp drop is also good as well. This makes Blaze farms very efficient and therefore players should save the first blaze spawners they encounter.

While Nether Fortresses can be found scattered across the Nether in Minecraft, their spawning isn't entirely random. Nether Fortresses are more likely to spawn on the positive side of the X-axis, therefore moving north or south while keeping the X-axis positive is the best way to search for them.

8. Shulkers

Shulkers populate the last zones in Minecraft. They drop one of the most useful items in the game - shulker shells. These shells can be used to craft shulker boxes, which are containers that can store and transport items.

Shulkers have two special abilities. The first one imbues their attacks with the Levitation status effect. One shulker bullet applies Levitation for 10 seconds, which causes the target character to float. When the duration runs out, the target falls down and takes fall damage. This works super well with the locations where the shulkers spawn, End Cities, which are very tall.

When at less than half health, a shulker has a 25% chance of teleporting after taking damage.

9. The Wither

Extra bosses in video games are usually stronger than the Final Boss, and the Wither fits this trope to a T. Overall, it is the strongest mob in Minecraft. Upon spawning, it creates a huge explosion that destroys almost everything in the area.

The special skill of the Wither is their ability to shoot explosive skulls at the player and other mobs. If the player is hit with one, they will take 4 hearts worth of damage and get inflicted with the Wither II status that lasts for 40 seconds. The status drains health and turns players' health bar black. These guys also have a dash attack that deals heavy damage and destroys blocks.

The Wither can be farmed to get its drop the Nether star, which in turn can be crafted into a beacon.

10. Iron Golem

An iron golem is a large strong neutral utility mob that defends players and villagers. While you can build it, the Iron Golem also spawn normally as part of a village's defense. They are melee mobs with high HP and damage.

To create an Iron Golem, just place 4 iron blocks in a T shape for the golem's body. Afterward, place a jack o'lantern, carved pumpkin, on top of the center upper block to serve as its head. The head piece must be placed last. A villager can also summon an Iron Golem when they are panicking. Upon arrival, Iron Golems wander around a village in a patrol-like fashion.

As Iron Golems automatically spawn in villages, players can farm them for Iron ingots.
