Similar to real world gold, Minecrafts' version of gold has always been useful. While it is replaced by Emerald as the currency for Trading, players can still use gold to barter with piglins for rare items. Minecraft's 1.18 update has modified the spawn location of gold in the game. In this article, we are going to showcase the 5 easiest ways to find gold in Minecraft 1.18 update.
1. Loot from village chests
Gold ingots, the most useful form of gold, spawn in village chests and treasure chests in Minecraft structures. While you have to explore structures and defeat the mobs to get treasure chests, village chests are free to open and loot.
This is one of the easiest ways to get some gold to start your Minecraft journey. Both the temple and weaponsmith chests in Minecraft villages have an about 25% chance to contain gold ingots - Toolsmith chests also have a 10% chance as well.
2. Piglins or zombified piglins
Adult piglins have an 8.5% chance of dropping their golden weapon or armor when killed. Each Looting level increases this chance by 1%. The armor pieces and weapons can be enchanted with random enchantments.
When defeated by a player or a tamed wolf, zombified piglins have a 2.5% chance to drop gold ingots. They can also drop items such as gold nuggets or gold weapons, though these drop rates are much lower than normal piglins. Players can create a piglin farm or just slaughter them with a looting enchanted weapon.
3. Treasure chests
Gold filled treasure chests have been a common sight in fiction, and Minecraft is not an exception. Players can find gold ingots spawning in various treasure chests while exploring buildings in the game.
You could explore the Nether Fortresses, conquer End Cities or beat Bastion Remnants to gain the most gold, as the general rule is that the more dangerous the structure, the better your chance to find gold.
Below is the gold ingot spawn rate for all treasures in the game:
Java Edition | Bedrock Edition | |
Buried Treasure chests | 88% | 34.3% |
End City chests | 55% | 52.3% |
Jungle Temple chests | 51% | 50.9% |
Nether Fortress chests | 49% | 49% |
Bastion Remnant chests | 33.7% | 26.5% |
4. Nether Gold Ore
Nether gold ore is a variant of gold ore found only in the Nether. It generates in the Nether in the form of blobs, from height levels 10 to 117. Players can find Nether gold ore from all Nether biomes. Basalt deltas are the worst site to mine, with the fewest blobs.
Nether gold ore drops 2-6 gold nuggets when mined with any pickaxe. Players can get a maximum possible drop of 24 golden nuggets with Fortune III, however, it is best to use silk touch and smelting.
5. Overworld Gold Mining
Overworld mining turned out to be the best way to find gold in Minecraft 1.18. A new block called Deepslate gold ore now spawns in all biomes of the overworld, from layers 0 to 32. Players can just dig down and begin to mine right away.
The use of enchantments like Efficiency and Fortune would definitely speed up this process.
